I'd say it's probably Mewithoutyou, because they meet the most emo criteria. But if you're going for popular, I'd say Dashboard Confessional.
 
I can't wait til the whole "OHMYFUGGINGAWD EMO THIS AND THAT!!1!!!1!!" trend dies down. It's like Indie doesn't exist anymore, just Emo. And all these little fvcks running around with multi-colored hair and wearing girls clothes and makeup think that it's some kind of fvcking fashion thing. I just want my music to be left alone. Why can't boy bands be popular again? At least the girls who liked them were attractive.

Edit: And another thing that pisses me off, people who have no clue about anything "emo" try to bash it. Emo is just another trendy word now, it doesn't describe anything really, as all music is emotional. So all the fvcktards who think they're emo and all the fvcktards who bash on emo can all just go die together in a giant fire. Then it will be over, and there will be peace.

yes! this band has been around and doesnt really deserve the emo bashing.
i personally dont like them but its like its disco or something the way people lash out.
not all three-chord music without distortion is emo.

not quite true. i mean, i never was into the emo scene...but retroactivly, a lot of the bands that i did listen to in high school are now called emo.
im pretty sure i saw some emo shows in college and they were a bit different than what people seem to constantly call emo. mostly, it was people crying on stage in the middle of songs and whatnot. bit intense. not for me.
