Dear Symantec: You suck. Die in a fire.

I come in on saturday to upgrade antivirus on the server. Of course, I forget Symantec requires those stupid license files to activate the software. It wants one. No big deal, I've got the serial number...but symantec decided today was a good day to do maintence on the licensing system. Oh! Goody fvcking gumdrops! And thank you so much for the oh so informative ETA on the return of said service "check back later" will help me to appropriately plan my course of action from here so well!

So now I'm stuck because those douches couldn't put up a secondary, even retardedly slow, server to handle this.

Do this sh|t at midnight or something.

Symantec = :thumbsdown:

I'm stuck. The software is inactive without a new license file, its already been updated it just doesn't work. Of course, the included instructions mentioned nothing about having to update the license file again. :roll: If they had, I would have attempted to secure the file before doing the upgrade.

licensing.symantec.com just throws up a "Sorry, we're fvcking around right now" message.

I almost want to try an older license file, but I doubt that will help.

We've started moving many of our clients to Trend as well. I find the management (even though it's browser-based) light-years ahead of SSC. Not to mention it's much less convoluted and easier to understand. The client uses about the same amount of resources as far as I can tell, but the offline mode works much better and is easier to configure for remote users.

All in all:

Symantec = :thumbsdown:
Trend = :thumbsup:

Not to mention that ScanMail is an Exchange Server's best friend!

telephone activation?

I need to download some file...you give them the serial number they mailed you, and they email you a file. Then you install the file on the server to activate the software. I know...why didn't they just give me the file on the disk?

There isn't any sort of telephone activation that I know of...of course the server lacks both a modem or an available analog telephone line. Maybe I'll try calling them though.

You should still call them and complain bitterly. The worst that will happen is nothing, and they MIGHT be able to find a way to fix things.

AVG does not offer a comparable product to symantecs for domino servers. If they did, I would already have it. (all clients currently use AVG network for desktop)
