Occasionally, I'll buy stuff for sandwiches and that's what I'll have for lunch at work for a week or so. Generally, I get some sort of bread that we normally won't have at home. The last one purchased was sourdough bread from walmart. If it's any indication on how long this bread has been around, it has a nice little label that says "Use or freeze by 5/17/09" on it.

I just took a look at the last three slices of bread, which have been sitting on the shelf next to my desk in a not-very-well-sealed bag untouched for the last two months. Not a single speck of mold. Yes, I know mold comes in various colors, including white... but I'm not even kidding - NO mold on this bread at all.

I'm tempted... really I am...

It's the acidity in the dough. Way back people used to keep bread for months sitting out in the dirt with no problems.

A few years back I bought a loaf of cheap walmart brand bread and it lasted 3-4 months just sitting on a shelf, and the bag only had a twist tye on it. It was a little stiff compared to when I first bought, it but there was no mold to speak of. Oh yeah, the PB&J sandwiches tasted good in case you are wondering.

Geez, they couldn't find any better place for it than sitting in the dirt?

He said way back. Clearly before anyone was using rocks for end tables.

i accidentally left a loaf of bread in my oven, and then forgot about it for a month. then i preheated it to 450 degrees....with the bread still in it. D:

not my brightest moment.

A few years back I made bread all the time. I want to get back doing it but I need to find another good mother, my last one died. If anyone knows about bread making they know what I mean.
