Looks really interesting, although it doesn't appear to be a game, I'll put it in the download queue.

Intriguing. I have to redownload HL2 on Steam, but after that I'm getting this mod. Looks like it will be a visual feast, at least.

Memories of Myst have overwhelmed me. I will probably have to re-watch the promo video a few more times to completely comprehend the narrative.

"unzip this into your SourceMods folder"

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\Dear Esther

Restart Steam and you should see it listed.

Played a bit - you're forced to walk everywhere..so it's gonna take you a long time to get anywhere. I wanted to run... :)

I did find a few issues with the level design [1 corner of the house is above ground, clear hole where a huge rock clearly should be covering it, etc].

Man I just played this mod, and it was amazing. I missed like 1/3 of a level due to it being a bit confusing at the start so I guess I'll have to replay it again. It's short only around an hour if you take your time. Less if you don't.

Hop. I think if the music kept on playing all the time walking wouldn't be such a big deal.

I'd love for a full game to be made based on this type of style. Just kind of a story that you can explore. Puzzles would be alright too. A small bit of action etc.

I only played about 10min of it but there is no story to set it up unless I wasn't paying attention for those 10min. I'm ganna restart from the beginning to see if I missed something.

It's just the ramblings of a guy, the music and the environment. The voice acting is great and the exploration reveals more dialogue.

Hint: It's a tragedy.

If this is a mod, is it going to be free when it unlocks on Steam later? Since I'd never heard of it before, imagine my surprise at searching for a game that I thought was just now being released and finding a 2 year old thread, lol.

I'm pretty sure it was remade and is being released as a stand alone game. The mod version should remain free, however.

Does anyone else think that $9.99 is a little steep for this? I mean, typically $10 is a bargain for most games, but if I understand correctly Dear Esther is only ~1.5 hours long. I know you can play it multiple times and it will play differently each time, but still... $6.99 or $7.99 would've been a better price point. And at $4.99, it would be an impulse buy for a lot of people.

I'm interested but hesitant.

Agreed, if it was $5 I would have bought it without thinking. But at $10, it was put in the, I'll wait for a Steam sale category :D

I see your point but I feel like when you go to the movies now, you pay like 10-14 dollars for a ticket, on top of that the movie you risk watching could be a piece of shit. I think $10 for a game like Dear Esther is much more engaging and if anything I'll probably get enjoyment out of it much more than any movie I'll be seeing this year.
