Dear Edge Shaving Gel,

This is hardly related, but this thread prompted me to look at my Edge bottle to see who manufactures it. Who the hell knew that Energizer made razors and shave gel? Clearly I'm clueless.

Yep, I always have, in 30+ years of shaving.

We made our own Lye soap when I was growing up. The whole shaving gel is an abomination to manhood 🙂

I use shave gel yes but I break off flint and shave with that cus anything less would be an abomination to manhood.

I wikipedia'd it while reading the OP to see if maybe it was P&G like Old Spice. The Energizer thing surprised me as well.

To the OP, I think it's a sign of the times. All humor these days id derivative (one might say all pop culture is derivative) and it seems to be especially prevalent in marketing.

IMO, I would say that Dos Equis started it with The Most Interesting Man In The World, and most brand "spokesmen" are a play off of him. See: Old Spice Guy, Keystone Light Guy, Interesting Heineken Party Guest Guy, Mustachioed Progressive Insurance Guy, etc.

Yeah, that's a good point..."There is nothing new under the Sun". Of course, under that rationale, even the Old Spice Guy should be a copy of someone else and I can't really classify those commercials as "a clone of ________".

I guess it's just the totally obvious attempt at mimicking an initially successful campaign (a year and a half later) that is irksome. That and even ignoring the unoriginality, the "copies" just aren't as good as the original.

Dear Edge Shaving Gel,
Please make your product so it doesn't continue to ooze out of the nozzle after each use.

LOL, yes

I guess I don't know how I made it through 50+ years without these girly man products 🙂

Real men use shaving soap and a brush to shave. I used it before I got an electric razor. Gives a smoother, effortless shave and isn't as messy. You don't need as much to achieve the same results.
