Dear CVSiN, Triumph, halik, millivolts & Other Motorcycle Elitists

hevnsnt

Lifer
Due to This thread (which bike should I get), this thread (I bought a zx-6r), and most importantly this thread (wife is preggy) I decided to take a MSF course.

I took it this weekend, Friday 6-10, and then 8-5 both saturday and sunday.

Lets just put it this way..

100% Written.
100% Driving.

I was the only person in my class to get 100% on the driving, and 1 of 2 who got a 100% on the written. Over-All I am really glad I took the course, the first and second day were pretty boring, but I learned some great techniques for quick stops and turning emergancies

I have about 800 miles on my bike now.. Still have not attempted any kind of wheelies, stoppies, or 130mph runs. When can I be a motocycle elitist like you guys and tell everyone that they shouldnt buy a bike? (aimed mostly at CVSiN)

😀

Anyway, I am still loving my bike! Now I just need to find me some twisties

<--Former MSF instructor basic & advanced.

We kept a list of people that scored double 100's & called them "Top Guns" gave them a special certificate. (I'm a member of the DFW Top Guns)

Now call the state folks for MSF in Kansas & become an instructor😀

I quit riding after a particularly bad wreck, I just couldn't get back on the horse🙁 Plus in Texas, if you pass the basic MSF class you don't have to wear a helmet & I had some issues with that new law. We were allowing novice riders to ride a liter+ superbike on the interstate with no helmet🙁

Anyway, congrats on the score, keep the shiny side up & wear your protective gear😀

Well I'm glad that you took the course, it really should be required rather than suggested before getting a license. But don't get overconfident, they only really cover the basics. There's just so much to learn. The Hurt report actually shows that accidents tend to increase after about 3-4 years of riding, then decline again. Reason for this being that riders get to the point where they really start to feel comfortable and confident on the bikes, and BAM! it bites them. I suggest you go pick up Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough. It covers alot more than what you learn in the MSF course. Save yourself the trouble of learning by trial and error by reading and listening to others.

Wow.. Talk about ironic.. During our class we had 4 people ride up on their bikes and say: I passed your class X years/months/weeks ago.. NONE of them were wearing helmets or jackets. Our teachers were like "Glad to see ya, now where is your helmet idiot?"

As far as becoming an instructor someday.. I dont have the time to devote to it.. I appreciate the time that those people give up to do it.. But its just not for me. 😛

Congrats 🙂

Now becareful and don't get yourself in a wreck!

I took the course with my newbie GF in March (this is her first year riding, I've been riding for 20 years).

I scored 100/100 as well. All they gave me was a tire pressure gage with the MSF logo on it. 🙁

If you're an experienced rider, and have moderate intelligence, scoring 100/100 is VERY easy.

funny.. because I wasnt the only experienced rider.. Apparently the others didnt think it was so easy to get a 100%. 😛

congrats on the 100% but dont let that get to you.

First you got lots to still learn. Passing the MSF is first thing, but i still say that'w the wrong bike to get. Oh well it was your call. Anybody can do 130mph in a straight line, and as for wheelies, its not cup of tea. Most elitist motorcycle enthusiasts usually ride, not stunt, and they ride well. If your only criteria is to stunt, then lord help you.

As for when its your time not to tell others to buy a bike like yours, its after you have crashed within the 3-6mnth period of riding.

As far as stunting goes.. that is my point, I still dont want to.. I just like the ride!

I read the motorcycle one. But I didn't have to read it. The pics had me drooling. 😀

Just pulling your leg. I can't not spill good niethther.

😉

I felt like such a dumbass in the class...I had no idea going in that everyone in the class had ridden before. I also had no idea how to drive a stick so I spent half the time figuring out why I kept stalling the damn thing.

Then we went to figure 8's and I'd screw up every 3rd or 4th one and everyone else in the class would do them perfectly. Anyways, ended up getting a 100% on both tests as well but halfway through the first day I thought I just had absolutely no talent and almost everyone in the class including chicks were better than I was.

I learned to ride as a preteen on dirt bikes. When we couldn't get to the hills, we'd ride around the parking lot of local church doing many of the smae types of things to increase skill. That alone makes all the tight maneuvering a LOT easier. The figure 8 was a breeze for me, while it was hard for everyone else. Hell, I can do the figure 8 on my Harley.

And the written test is merely a test on memory and common sense. There is no excuse for not getting 100% on that, except not paying attention.

Sorry if I come off as a snob. 😛
