there is no such thing as an atheist...because to even identify as an atheist you first have to recognize the idea of a God...im not talking just a christian God...i mean a creator,an entity who designed the infinitism cycle of birth and death we observe in everything from single celled organisms to to entire galaxys...so basically if your identifying as an atheist then you understand the idea of god you just refuse to believe it exists...funny how it mskes you defensive too...thats because you do believe your just "anti" God

Wat?

Also does this Tbow guy really think god gives a shit whether he scores a touchdown or not?

Bill is an idiot at times, honestly I don't get his absurd hate of religion and his arrogance in thinking he knows better than anyone else is laughable. It's the one thing that keeps me from really liking the guy and I'm as non-religious as they come.

btw this thread reminded me of something i was thinking about. we should only hire atheists into government. since they don't practice any religion, they don't need to have any holidays off. even celebrating thanksgiving is religious, it has traditions etc, so they wouldn't even get those days off, why would they? they're atheists.

It's sensationalistic self centered morans (yes, I spelled moron wrong) like you who take something as simple like a fucking prayer after a touch down and treat it as an outward act. It's a peaceful inward reflection. He isn't showboating. He isn't getting in anyone face about it. He is 100% right in praying after a TD. Not because he is a Christian, but because he is keeping it to himself.

Matthew 6:5-7 said:
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Even Tebow's own savior says that those who pray in public and showboat in such a manner are hypocrites and will receive their just reward.

This is the succulent hypocrisy that envelops and drips from mainstream American Christianity like thick molasses.

I'll see your Matthew 6:5 and raise you 1 Corinthians 14:16

Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying?

Note that he didn't call for boycott of NFL, unlike the "tolerant" Christians who called for boycott of HBO.

1 Corinthians 14:16 is referring to how if one prays with the spirit (speaking in tongues) then one cannot expect others to understand.

Thanks for playing.

POINT BLANK Jesus said not to pray in public. Tebow ignores the teachings of his own god.

Okay, since you're intent on going down this road.

Did Tebow pray in public, out loud? Did he bust out the Our Father in the middle of a press conference? No. He kneels, and has a bible verse painted on his face.

I'll fully admit to not knowing much of bible studies but that sounds pretty off to me. Like having a flag cut up to make a tshirt, it just seems a bit disrespectful really.

It's his choice at the end of the day but does seem a bit douchy.

Is Tebow in public?
Is he praying?
Did Jesus say those who pray in public are hypocrites?

No matter how you spin it, the answer to each question is "yes."

Is Tebow in public?
Yes.
Is he praying?
That's what I asked you. The answer is no.
Did Jesus say those who pray in public are hypocrites?
He said not to be like the hypocrites who pray in public.

No matter how you spin it, the answer to each question is "yes."
This is the bible we're talking about. Literally every word has been spun and respun and translated and retranslated to a mind-numbing extent.

According to Tim Tebow, the answer is "yes."

Sure it has. However, Jesus' words about not praying in public are crystal clear in any translation. Those who pray in public are hypocrites.

Bible verses painted under his eyes. Ads for Focus on the Family. Obnoxious "look at how pious I am" displays during games. If an atheist quarterback felt the need to announce that there's no god after he made a touchdown he'd be (rightfully) denounced as a dick.

You are kidding me right? Have you watched the NFL at all? Guys wear all sorts of things under their eyes. From bible verses to their area code. They do ad's for a various number of things. From social policy to nike. They have all sorts of stupid ritualistic "look at me" dances and displays. If Tim Tebow pisses you off for doing what the rest of the league does. Then look at yourself and ask "why am I so insecure that I single out Tim Tebow for doing anything different than the rest of the dicks in the league?"

Single him out? I said I find the guy annoying. I don't lose sleep over it, I don't make endless anti-Tebow posts, I just said his behavior is kind of obnoxious.

Also, isn't religion supposed to be a little more dignified than Nike advertisements?

Well, ever since Jesus started walking around with a shotgun, shooting non-believers in the face,... it's been kind of hard for Him to recruit new followers.

I mean, He doesn't even ask them if they will convert! He asks; "Do you believe in me?" When they say no, he just ices them.

You know, I always thought the Christians and their "Attack on Christmas" hysteria was over the top. But, threads like this, especially over something so insignificant as a prayer, with what you do with your body and your life, clearly shows that atheists can be just as big of spine less twits than anyone else.

iirc, it's just a chapter and verse reference on the eyeblack. like "3:16." other players besides tebow have worn it. but because the media is absolutely fascinated with the guy it's a big deal.

tebow himself isn't obnoxious at all. the media have made a circus around the guy. blame them.

Like I said I really dont know whats considered acceptable to Christians, but it just seems to trivialise Christianity in a way.
