2-9-2004 Dean Will Battle Kerry For Nomination

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Democrat Howard Dean said on Monday even if he loses Wisconsin's Feb. 17 primary he will remain in the race for his party's 2004 presidential nomination.

Asked if he would drop out if he lost Wisconsin as he had said he would just last week, Dean said, "No." Asked if he was in it for the long haul, he said, "Yup."

He later told a reporter that people who had urged him to stay in the race had convinced him to fight on.

With $1.1 million in contributions raised in recent days, Dean planned to begin airing on Monday a biographical ad in Wisconsin that basically helps reintroduce him to voters.

The spot describes Dean as a former family doctor and Vermont governor who has taken on special interests on behalf of average Americans, and is now ready to take on Bush.

2-8-2004 Dean tries the MoveOn Ad Choice Campaign

3 different Supporters produced an Ad for Dean to air.

Asks supporters to choose which Ad will air in Wisconsin:

Link:

Vote on your Ad for America

Beginning Tuesday, we're going on the air in Wisconsin with an ad independently created, directed, and produced by grassroots supporters.

No campaign has ever tried this. But your campaign -- with its unprecedented pool of talented and committed supporters -- can pull it off.

So which ad will it be?

The entire race has come down to this: we must win Wisconsin.

We will get a boost this weekend in Washington, Michigan and Maine, but our true test will be the Wisconsin primary. A win there will carry us to the big states of March 2-and narrow the field to two candidates. Anything less will put us out of this race.

All that you have worked for these past months is on the line on a single day, in a single state. We have come so far to change our political process and restore our democracy-we can't stop now.

Thank you,

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

I live in WI.

I believe that I will vote for the worst candidate so that Bush has a higher chance of winning.

2-5-2004 Dean To Quit Race If Loses In Wisconsin

Dean suggested that "it'll be more of the same" if Kerry replaces Bush in the White House. Clark criticized both Kerry and Edwards, faulting them for complaining about White House policies that they had backed in the Senate.

I was listening to the radio this morning and he said that he was in it for the long haul and he would go to the end no matter what. He noted that less than 10% of something or another has reported in so far. I'm less than one hour from Madison (capital of WI), so I wonder who's right. Yahoo, or the Radio.

You're Radio station is running Day old News, not a very good sign for Wisconites.

I didn't think it should matter. Why would he announce once day that he is in it to the end no matter what, then the next day say that he's quitting if he doesn't win WI?

To mislead voters into thinking this is their last change to vote for him? ..much like car dealers who advertise, "Today only....$9M in rebates." It creates a sense of urgency.

[edit]the car dealer analogy in no way reflects my personal opnion of Dean :) [/edit]

His 10% statement was in an email from a day or so ago. The "we must win Wisconsin" came in an email overnight.

I do think however that the press is blowing this up just a tad. He didn't specifically state that he would quit if he didn't win there....yet;)

$700,000 In the Name of Kitty!

Kitty's Bat

Last night on our radio show (which was featured on NPR this morning), WDFA streaming live talk radio, Kitty from New Hampshire called in. She's a factory worker in New Hampshire, she's never been involved before -- or even voted before. She called in to ask for a bat:

I would really like to get another bat for Dean -- we need so much money, you can?t get the message out without money.

I'm not rich, believe me. I work in a factory and I just found out I'm going to be laid off at the end of March -- I'm not a latte drinking professional elitist, I've worked hard all my life, I've always worked overtime. I've got my son in college and he's going to be a teacher.

My career in my manufacturing plant, we make automotive parts, it started out great, you know, we had everything. The last three or four years they started to taking away things ... we're not allowed to have a union. He's right on about corporate America.

I don't know if it was his I want to know speech or his Great Restoration Speech -- I'm thinking it was his Restoration speech when he announced --The thing that got me was the sincerity of the man -- it wasn't just words.

This is the first time I've given money, the first time I've voted. I didn't think it mattered. But it does matter. I want to see Dean in the White House.

He's a good, honest, decent man.

Even if you think you can't give any more, give it, its an investment, max out now, we need the money now.

Kitty was the first to hear about the Win Wisconsin bat, and Nicco promised her that we'd call it "Kitty's Bat."

You have changed politics forever, and you're changing it again today, turning the race around -- you've already blasted past expectations, and together, you are throwing down your passion and commitment and showing the country how its done. As Vermonter in the comments says, "Have you ever seen a campaign with this much heart and stamina?"

They're at $693,103.76 Right now! This is total crazy. Almost $700,000 and counting in less than 24hours. Viva senor Dean!

I stopped laughing and actually read on...this put me over the edge:

No this is a real caller who called into the dean radio show alst night Here. . This is a partial transcript of her conversation. here is the link to last night's program. She was one of the first callers.

In truth I feel that caller hit the nail on the head. This reminds me of the parable Jesus told about the woman offering a small amount of money, but which was a lot for her as an offering in the temple. She geave so little in mass amount, but to her it was a lot. Other people laughed, and didn't give close in percentage to what she gave.

I am Christian and I say Go Howard, Go!
