I just got this unit from OneCall. I'm liking it thus far and now I'll get my BVG to the Best Buy price since it's in their weekly flyer :)

DVD player, 80 gig Tivo, free basic service? pretty nice deal i think :)

brucekatz, you are misleading people. The deal is 199.99 AFTER the $100 rebate. You said $199.99 and $100 rebate giving the impression that the sale price was what you actually pay for the item before the rebate.

No, it's on sale for $199, then there's a $100 rebate on top of that. My neighbor got it for that price too. I've had mine for a few months now and it's my favorite gadget :) I never miss a TV show---ever!

How many of you use the FREE basic service?

What do you like and dislike about it?

I used it for a month. Dislike only being able to see 3 days of programming, HATED not being able to use a USB network adapter to get updates (phone only with basic service). Also, an unexpected hit was the ability to play MP3s and show photos from your PC to your TV with the premium service. Those media servers from HP and DLink cost like $149, so this is like getting one for free :) Being able to get a season pass to a TV show is my favorite feature of the Plus service over the basic.

Sometime in the next couple of months, the ability to burn shows to DVD or view them on PC's is coming for people with Plus service.

This really is an amazing device. I didn't realize how much we scheduled our lives around TV- "We gotta get home to watch this!" or "I'm staying home tonight to watch that". No more- love the TiVo :)

Fritzo, if only there was a way to hack/mod my ReplayTV 3060 to get updates via broadband :(

After the initial phone setup, you can use a USB network adapter with TIVO Basic service. The below chart clearly lists "broadband" as a feature of both basic and full service.

Huh. When I bought mine you had to buy the plus service to activate the USB ports.
