We all get it... its annoying as hell... recently I've been getting allot of calls from the Fraternal Order of Fireman...

Holy cow... how many times do I have to say no...

I was talking to a few people I work with here, and I think we came up with a solution... but Its going to take an effort by everyone...

When these people call, start replying with 'No, and since you want to harrass me so much I will NEVER buy your product, and will tell friends not to as well'

If enough of us follow through with this type of tactic, we could make a difference....

Stop listening to these people.... Stop being polite... have they been polite? Sure they sound pleasant, but do they have to call you and annoy you so much?

"<please> put me on your do not call list."

Is really the most effective. I always forget to say that because I'm too busy hanging up. The ones that are very persistent I remember to say that though. *They* usually hang up halfway through the statement.

Check the Hot Deals forum... there is a thread listing all the "Do Not Call" lists for different states. Sign up, add your number, and quit complaining. :)

My simple solution is to not answer the phone. I let everything go to the answering machine and if it is someone I want to talk to I will pick up the phone. My wife on the otherhand cannot resist answering the phone so she gets to deal with the marketing morons when she is home.

The only problem with this is that we used to get 10-20 calls a day. Fustrating to say the least. Just hearing the phone ring that often is enough to drive me nuts. We subscribed to privacy manager. That intercepts all unknown or blocked calls before the phone rings. Needless to say, we don't get solicitor calls now at all. I love it. :)

I just tell them to put me on their do not call list. Works like a charm, marketing calls are way down. Now I just have to convince my wife to do this, she just gets upset and hangs up on them.

its illegal in my state for telemarketers to call. Awesome. I went from 1-2 solitications a day to literally zero.

Kentucky's No Call Law

Maybe contact your congressmen and let them know. This is the greatest thing since sliced bread. :)

Other than that ask to be placed on the "do not call" list.

-edit- forgot to mention, any company that solicits you can and will be fined 10 - 50 grand I believe PER OCCURANCE.

The people who call you are simply doing their jobs. Be polite (but firm) and just ask to be removed from their call list.
It's not that hard.

edit: btw, I've been doing that for years and I hardly ever get telemarketing calls anymore, the last time being about 3 weeks ago. A friend of mine who is rude with them gets about 10 or so a night. I tried to explain what was going on but he doesn't get it. These people are just doing their jobs. Sh!tty jobs at that. If you're polite and say the magic words, "Remove me from your call list," then they'll probably do it. If you're a rude asshole who makes their jobs harder and doesn't say the magic words, they're gonna pay you back by putting you on their frequent call list.
And no, I don't have caller ID at home, solicitation blocking, no call list, or anything like that.

I never answer the phone between 5 pm and 9 pm. My friend used to work as a telemarketer and those were her hours.
