Arghh...I found the Cornell DDR CLub video on Google Video and uploaded it to youtube for my videos. I get this pm last week asking me to remove it because he already had it up and it is redundant blah blah blah.

Well i get this pm today..
You have not yet complied with my request for you to remove this video.
Please remove it ASAP or I will have to file a copyright infringement claim with Youtube.

¬ Eugene

Surely youtube wouldn't remove it would they? itold him to piss off and I was gonna remove it until he started acting like a baby.

And here is his comment he posted on the video comments section...
This is an original video not made by you, so please remove it.

Thanks.
¬ Eugene

So he made the video OR he didn't make the video and he's uploaded it himself and thinks there shouldn't be more than one copy out there?

I'm pretty sure that he doesn't hold any kind of copyright to this video. Just because you filmed something doesn't mystically mean you hold the copyright to it.

Tell him to pound sand.

I see it's a student-made Director video. Was he also the one who put it on Google video?

If he was involved with making the vid, youd better remove it. But in any case, he's still a whiny b*tch.

In this situation, I would remove it from the 'My Videos' section and then Favorite it instead. Keep your downloaded copy on your drive if you want.

Incorrect, my friend... it means exactly that. Anything created after April 1, 1989 (I think) that is an original, private work carries an implied copyright per the Berne Convention. Just because it doesn't bear a "(c)" mark doesn't mean it's in the public domain. Applying for a formal copyright with the USPTO does make ownership much easier to prove for posterity, though.

Most definitely they will remove it if he complains. He's claiming the video as his and he has a Director account. You (the OP) will lose.

And sharing on YouTube doesn't necessarily mean downloading somebody else's video and putting it up as your own video. That's why Favorites were created. Other people can see your favorited videos and check them out and know that you weren't responsible for them AND the person who did put it up will appreciate the favorite from you. Everybody wins.

Ask him if was the guy who shot the video. If he can prove it, delete your copy. If he can't, ask him to go suck donkey balls.
