Dealership parts costs

Has anyone gone to the dealership to buy parts? I've noticed something recently, Toyota Camry (Gen 5 2002-2006) Parts cost just about the same as BMW Z4(After mid life refresh 2007 3.0i) parts! I was ordering parts for both vehicles and damn, if the Camry parts aren't insane when comparing the original cost of the vehicle. Mercedes and Porsche parts cost a lot more in my exprience(seriously, $300 dealership wholesale price for a side view mirror glass on a 2004 Cayenne S, $400 retail for regular customers, and that's just the glass, not mirror assembly), but for me, that's expected, Mercedes & Porsche purchase and maintenance costs are expected to rape you but Toyota?

Anyone else have experience with parts prices? What brand/company has the fairest cost for OEM parts in comparison to the vehicle costs?

Buying directly from dealer for japanese cars is usually quite expensive. Its better to find the exact OEM part online from ebay/retailers for a better price.

I rmeember I had to buy an air filter from Infiniti/Nissan for my I30 because a regular brand like FRAM would make the car fail a DriveClean test and run poor. It cost about 30$ compared to 20 for a cheapo filter

I'm going to go off on a limb and say that Chevy or Ford is probably the best given the wide availability of aftermarket OEm quality replacement parts.

my oem 98 maxima filter cost me i think $11 from dealer. same filter for all VQ30 which covers i30 from 95-01...

parts are always going to be expensive at dealerships because 90% of invertory is marked up 35-50% for profits. When i worked at a dealership i used to get mines for 5% above cost and the filter then cost me like $7 bucks. Now i just get the normal 20% off mark-up deal after i got to knew some of the guys there.

i normally hit up a couple of warehouses online that stocks OEM parts for the common items. TRDsparks.com for my 3gen camries
courtesyparts.com for my 4th gen max.

currently looking for a good g35 one for the next car.

Working on my friends Camry's suspension we ended up having to cut off one of the two bolts securing the strut to the knuckle. Tried to find a similar one at the auto parts stores but no luck. We wanted to try and get it all back together that day so we hit the Toyota dealership. The bolt was $15 I think and the nylon locking nut would have been $12. Granted it was a beefy bolt and we wanted to be sure we used the same size as the existing, but that was still pretty steep. Then it ended up they didn't even have the nut. We bought the bolt figuring we'd be able to find a nut to fit it at a hardware store but no luck. He ended up buying the parts online and getting them shipped for half the cost and just returned the bolt to the dealership.

I've bought parts for a Corolla a few times at the dealer. The parts guy says Toyota bumps the prices up a bit every six months. So I guess the older your car is, the more expensive the part.
