That's pretty f'ed up right there.

I don't see how any of that could remotely be legal.

I mean I could see if there was a lien on it (and even then that would be really crappy), but dude bought and paid for car. Transaction completed.

Yeah people here in Nashville hate that stealership. I wouldn't recommend going to any of his around the country because of tactics like these.

The check implies payment and I'm sure they would call the bank to verify the 8k to cover the check or the dude gave them a certified check. Just because they didn't cash the check, doesn't give them the right to yank the truck back. If I went to the supermarket and paid with some coupons and a check, they couldn't come to my house and take my gallon of milk back.

Why does anyone buy a car at a dealership? I don't get it. I suppose you have to for new cars (which is another kettle of fish), but private party is CHEAPER, EASIER, and less likely to scam you if you're not dumb about it.

One transaction to unload the old car and get a "new" car.

Yeah, that's TOTALLY worth getting a fraction of the old car's worth and paying twice the price of the "new" car, plus all the hassle they'll put you through for hours and hours before you actually get to drive it away.

I think I'll stick to private party for now:)

Some people consider it a hassle to deal with selling their car private party. And dealerships have a selection so it's easier to test drive cars and figure out what you want.

Meh, I've sold two cars on craigslist, and both times I sold it within two days, with a list of 3 or 4 people waiting. Probably took less time than it would have to haggle with the dealer, and I got a good price too.

I think it's purely psychological...people here tend to have some sort of mythical understanding about how things are magically better and safer if they come branded.

sounds lke a major case of extortion to me.......dealer probably didn't realize it, but he had signed a contract and the reason they took the truck back, iw, voided the sale, was because he would not agree to pay a ransom to keep it.

bastards need to get the sh!t ebaten out of them for pulling this crap.

"So you're telling me that if I were to buy a car from you, and then later find out that a friend paid $5k less for the same car, it would not be 'reasonable or fair' to expect me to be bound by that sale, when the dealership clearly knew the price was higher than it should be?"

Don't want to pay the consequences of screwing up? DON'T SCREW UP. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

There were two really shady dealerships in the city I used to live in. Everyone I knew who bought a vehicle from one of them had serious complaints, one of them kept getting picketed. They stayed in buisness though. They were large dealerships with lots of shiny cars parked right next to the road. I would even talk to people who had heard the horror stories and bought there anyway.
These kinds of dealerships stay in buisness because for a lot of people when information and shiny things are competing, shiny things will always win.

Nope, I know there's not. I have seen BHC's tactics first hand. their corporate office is across /down the street from mine. I drive past BH's home every day and see what those tactics can buy. All about the mighty $$$.
