Dealer not honoring ebay sale price for Hyundai Genesis

Didn't see this posted but apparently there's a bunch of hoopla going on about this guy 'Mcfly' who won the auction for a Genesis coupe for $16125 but the dealer just scoffed at him when he called them up. Dude posts about his experience in the Hyundai forum and hell breaks loose. As of right now the dealer is giving the guy the runaround all the while pleading with him to get people to stop emailing/calling them and for him to take all the posts off the forums. They finally said that they'll honor the price but they won't divulge the VIN number of the vehicle and according to the legal agreement they made, it sounds like they're trying to sell him a used vehicle instead of a new one for the 16125 price.

Hard lesson on failing to add a reserve price to the auction. Whoever posted that car obviously isn't too bright...
 
Doesn't ebay strongarm sellers that don't fulfill the terms of the auction? I thought they'd hold your bank account hostage or something, or is that only if you accept payment?
 
This kind of goes hand-in-hand with the post a couple days ago that car dealerships are shady. The dealer that did this is probably hating all the bad publicity it's getting now.

Depends on the new legal agreement. The dealer would be stupid to omit this, but the new agreement should say something like "this agreement supercedes any other previous agreements between [dealer] and [customer]"

btw, screw reserve auctions. They're the whole reason I stopped going to ebay. An auction is supposed to be people selling shit they don't want anymore and getting the best price they can for it. That's what bring people out, the possibility of a great deal. Once 90% of the auctions started having reserves and "buy it now" (another dumb, counter-auction feature) I stopped going and switched to Amazon and Craigslist.

Now, can one of my bros tell me what a cool story that was. :awe:
 
Stealerships suck. Kind of reminds me of the time my parents bought my mom's Eclipse. They had bank financing for up to $20k and walked into the dealer with a blank check.

My mom test drove the car, loved it and wanted it. They weren't going to haggle, weren't going to waste anybody's time, just wanted to fill out the check, sign the papers and drive home. Salesman wasted 4 hours trying to convince my parents to get dealer financing instead of just taking the check. We were actually in the cars we brought, ready to leave, when the salesman finally relented.

When my dad went to buy his work truck like 20 years ago, he was all set to sign the papers when it was brought to his attention that the vehicle would not include a steering wheel. My dad listened to their explanations, incredulous, and after they finished, he paused for a good ten seconds before looking at his brother and asking "what do you think?" My uncle looked at the dealer, then back at my dad and said "I think when you buy a truck, it should come with a steering wheel". It got to the point where my dad was walking out the door when they "found" a steering wheel in the back of the shop that they could "give" him.

FWIW, it was a Chevy Custom Deluxe, and a damn good truck that lasted for like 12 years.

Don't people look at their car before buying it?!?

My dealer story is boring. I went to dealer, picked the car I wanted, drove it around, said I wanted to buy it with my own financing, wrote number on check which is invoice + $300, showed them the check and gave my cell number, walked out, salesman comes out and shakes my hand, I sign check, I go home with brand new car.

WTF? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Not your story, but to sell a vehicle without a steering wheel? If this was a private sale maybe, but at a dealership? I would have busted out laughing.
 
I don't get it. Do salesmen get much larger commission for signing up someone with dealer financing than just taking a full check? I have no sympathy for dealerships that pull this kind of crap. If they're going to haggle with a customer for 4 hours who is just trying to give them full purchase price on the spot then they deserve to go bankrupt, IMO.

Reserve auctions make a lot of sense actually. Especially on vehicles. Sure, random crap that people are trying to pawn off shouldn't have them, but why would you even be looking for that shit in the first place? That's about the least annoying thing about eBay anymore.

No offense, but your dad sounds kinda stupid. How can you operate it without the steering wheel? I'd be like, well a vehicle with no steering wheel is no good to me, bye. After pulling shit like that I wouldn't deal with them unless they compensated by giving me a better deal. I'd make it known that I'd be willing to pay more to another dealer for not trying shit like that. More people need to be willing to tell them to fuck off when they pull their childish stunts, and then maybe they'll stop pulling them.

Sorry, I think I mistook how you wrote that. Its clear your dad wasn't really being stupid.

Maybe, maybe not. Certainly the company probably makes more money, so they're going to tell their salesmen to push them.

Sure they do....it's called a kickback. The dealership gets a small percentage of the finance charge kicked back to them. That's why dealers try their hardest to get you to finance through them instead of providing your own.

Speaking of bad dealerships, a salesman at a Dodge place tried to tell me all the good hiding places in a 4 door Ram to stash your weed in. I was WTF?

To his credit, there are a lot of places to stash it on a Dodge Ram. He was just trying to be helpful. If he hadn't shown you, you'd be pissed about that, instead.
