(Deal still alive) Magellan GPS Module for Handspring Visor for $22.99 AR and PM at Staples B&M

OK, here's the deal. CompUSA lists the Magellan GPS module for $79.99 at their website. It's sold out online, so check your local stores for availability. (For those in the SF Bay Area, it's in stock in Emeryville and San Francisco as of this morning. Staples has the same unit online and at B&M for $149.99. Get 110% pricematch, then send in the $50 rebate.

Staples price: $149.99
PM to CompUSA: -$77 (110% of $70 difference)
Magellan rebate: -$50
Net Price: $22.99 plus tax

I didn't have any Staples coupons with me when I bought it, but they could make the deal even sweeter.

EDIT: The CompUSAs and Staples seem to be running out fast. I checked the CompUSA stock as far away as 80 miles to make sure that there was plenty of inventory before going to the store with printout in hand to get mine.

EDIT 3/27: The GPS Companion has been removed from the CompUSA website, making it impossible to check local store availability. If you still want in on the deal, I'd try calling the local CompUSA's and ask. Many of the Staples B&M stores have run out of stock too.

EDIT 3/27 pm: New info from grlaw: <FONT size=3>THIS DEAL IS NOT DEAD...Just PMed @ 2:00 PM TODAY PST. Just call 1-800-338-0252 (thanks puppyfriend) and complain that they wouldn't pricematch. Give them both item numbers and tell them even though the item has been taken down on CompUSA's website, that it is still in stock at several stores across the USA. They'll pricematch it, might take 10 mins. on hold time.

Is CompUSA not participating in the rebate? I don't see anything that would prevent you from buying it directly from CompUSA for $79.99 and then using the rebate to bring the price down to $29.99. Sure it's a few dollars more (you don't get that extra 10%) but you can avoid the hassle of PM'ing...

Thanks. Called it in to Staples. $72.99+tax. No hassles. I didn't want to push my luck with a coupon this time around, since this was the only item I needed. Now to find a cheap Visor to use it with :Q

Question: do you need some kind of wireless service or anything to use this, or just the visor & GPS module?

All you need is the Visor and the GPS module. The satellites are provided courtesy of the US military and our taxes.

For me in San Jose, the nearest CompUSA store with stock was in Emeryville which is about 50 miles away through some of the worst traffic in the nation, and there are tons of Staples around. CompUSA is listed on the Magellan website, so the purchase from them should be no problem.

Nice deal even if I didn't use the coupon. Thanks Shutrbug! I've been wanting one of these for 2 years!

Fill and Justincase,
You're welcome. It feels good to give back to the forum where I found so many deals. And thanks to the members of this board that found the Glenayre/Visor deal in the first place.

How do you use this non-printable online link as a coupon at the OD B&M???

its very difficult. I tried twice and everytime they called compusa and realized that none of the stores had it in stock.
It might be better to do a PM in staples B&M store.

no staples b&m in my area either (don't ask me why)....yeah i was just wondering about the whole office depot coupon thing too....i couldn't find the magellan gps companion at officedepot.com, so i don't see how that deal would work....how did you do it, beerinator?

Just got back from 3 Staples in LA area and none of them have it in stock so It mmight save time for everybody in the downtown LA to just buy from staples.com
I got back from mid Wilshire and they have none in stock so I go to the Kiosk and order it there and pay at the cashier. Do pricematch at the cashier and use my $5.00 deviden check reward

$149.99
$-77.00
------------
$ 72.99
$ -5.00 deviden rewards
$ 5.61 Tax sux
------------
$ 73.60

Thanks shutrbug, So from now I won't get lost a lot 🙂
