Also with screen size alone a 20 --> 24" inch upgrade is significant. You say a 20" --> 24" isn't a big deal, thats basically saying that a 15" - 19" also isn't a big deal, which it OBVIOUSLY is. i don't think anyone on this forum would use a 15" now adays.

When playing games like Call of Duty on this, is the image stretched to fit or do you get the black on the sides?

the image is stretched out if you are playing on a punkbuster server; if you're playing single player, you can set the FOV to 90 and then it will be fully sweetness maximus (default FOV=80)

I concur. 24" is neither here nor there. Serious TV viewing starts at 30"+ for any kind of visual impact, especially HDTV. Gaming will also be impressive at this size. Very few other everyday apps currently on offer require so much monitor real-estate.

You'd be better off plunking less than $500 for a 20" monitor and wait for the 30 incher.

I'm going to guess that you don't own a 2405fpw since nobody that actually has one of these on their desk would dare say that. First of all the monitor is huge. If you're coming from a 19" CRT then you'll get roughly 57% more screen area. Going from a 19" CRT to a 2005fpw will only yield roughly 10% more screen area. The 2405fpw is in a league of its own. Widescreen gaming, HDTV, and all the other goodies like component video and the USB hub make it an awesome addition to any desk. It's a shame that the $860 deal appears to be over. I had the 2005fpw and it really is small compared to the 2405fpw. Take that for what it's worth. 30" gaming is not going to happen for a while due to the videocard and DVI not being able to handle it. If you read Toms Hardware, we're really pushing it with even a 24" monitor and single link DVI. HDTV on a 30" monitor will require a very powerfull CPU.

I was reading up on the apple cinema display 30", and I understand that there is a dual-link 6800 card available. Also, I have definitely seen dual link cables, even down at the local frys.

Thank you for posting this for me... :)

24" is more than many desks can accomodate - sure you can nail a 27 or 30"er to the waall but it won't have better resolution or look better as it will be further away - this monitor rulz

Funny, and when the 30" comes out, someone will say that the 36" is THE size to get. You'd be better off getting the 24" now, and getting the 30" when it comes out - that's the way I see it :)

I want one of these, as I need a 2nd LCD here anyway.

Have my PC on a 2005, and my 2nd on a 17" CRT.. so I can use this for myself and put the 2005 on the other machine.. perfect!

Alas, I refuse to pay over the $860 price that Dell set. So I play the waiting game!
Which is fine with me.. I'm not hurting right now by any means.

I'd suggest to anyone who missed out on this.. dont worry.. its technology, it might go up temporarily, but it WILL come back down.. just gotta wait a few weeks or a month.

And if it doesnt come back down, there are plenty of competitors, you never know what could happen.

The 2005 dropped in price fairly quickly.. and so will this.. do not fret.

Dell still owes me $300 for a TSR return that is why I didnt pull out the credit card right away.. I want my freaking money.. then I'll order another LCD from them.

This monitor is beautifull, and i think it is the best monitor for any game or i should say for any task. Images are sharp and clear, the games looks magnificent at any resolution and getting better if you increase the resolution upto 1900x1200. So saying wait for 30" LCD hell no, 30" will be so big for gaming. I think this monitor will be good for another 5 years for me.

Only problem is the competition sells smaller versions @ 1900x1200 for $1799 (apple) and 1650 (sony). They have a lot of catching up to do. Samsung has the most similar 24" and theirs is selling for $1699. I'm just saying don't hold your breath for this to drop in price. LCD technology makes it hard to produce large displays thats why most HDTV's are plasma not lcd. It would just be too expensive. Everyone enjoy your monitors. I love mine.

1080i looks amazing on it, and 1080P well im speechless during those two minute trailers

how big are the pixels on this thing? I was at bestbuy yesterday, and they had a 30" flatron(?) on display, and I can see the square pixels/screen door effect within 2 feet from the screen. its kinda annoying. Maybe the flatron is more like a LCD TV, so the pixels are bigger?

You're right, it is more like a TV: 1280 x 768 resolution.

Yeah, don't you wish DVDs were 1080p? It really is getting time for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray to come out.

Actually HDTV on a 30" at the current range of acceptable pixel pitches for a computer monitor won't happen at all without some kind of scaling. These 24" inch are pretty much the perfect size for viewing 1080p and using as a computer monitor. It is the perfect size for a personal HDTV display. Maybe they could improve on it with a 27" 1920x1200, but a 30" at 1920x1200 wouldn't make all that great a monitor as it would a nice 30" LCD TV.

Damn I want one, but for 920 +tax and shipping that's almost 1k. I don't think I've ever bought a single comp item that expensive.

Abaez I felt the same way, but then I thought about how long I keep monitors versus the actual pc.

You could go through 3-6 major system upgrades and still have an awesome lcd monitor.

I agree and this is worth it, I had a 19inch kds crt before this and loved it. lasted me 4 years. hope this last at least half that long....

2 years? You should easily be able to last that long. Monitors take forever to die and 24" is really nice. I lasted 6 years on an 8" B/W, 6 years on a 14" 16bit monitor, and 6 years on my last 19" CRT. Unless some kind of technological breakthough is released I'll probably use this thing for 6 years as well.

What are you talking about?

This 24" already uses 1920x1200 so why would it matter if you increase the size of the tv itself? It would still be the same resolution (or less)

It can do both well. It all depends on how far you are from the display

Anyone else get the deal or the $925+tax deal lately?

I just got quoted $925+tax from Brandon @ dell, and then I called, voice mail, called the next day and he said $1079 now.
