I had thought that I had read some reviews, and that, in part, due to higher clock speeds, entry-level AM5 parts like the 7600X could match the X3D.

If I was building new, I'd go AM5 . For AM4, I'd consider it. If the 5600X3d had come out near the beginning of the year, I would've grabbed that instead of the 5600X that replaced a 1600X.
