Not bad at all for that caliber of a CPU. I'd pay $400 for an E6300 given its performance (but you better not tell Intel that).

Given the E6600's overclockability I would pay $500 for it but with a release price of $316 I won't get near it for more than $340. It's really a testament to Intel, for the first time in nearly a decade they've made a Revolutionary step as opposed to an Evolutionary one. Plus this can only bring better prices and products from AMD. I love Capitalism!!!

Let us just remember that if it weren't for AMD's absolute domination for the past year and a half, Conroe's would all be $1000+. Just food for thought.

All you 6400 and 6300 users are going to hit that wall (FSB) pretty fast and wish in the end you hit the total us E6600's willbe hitting...Even the 250 dollar boards are not consistently hitting the FSB you boys will need to get 3.6ghz.....Good luck....I want 4ghz and that will be a pipe dream for you boys...

Werd..I've never said this before always buying cheapest but this time it's different with 266 stock bus.... spend your bucks on CPU for it's multiplier, not mobo's and ram..They won't help you.

A little dramatic, no? How about: if it wasn't for Intel we'd still be paying $300 for an X2 3800+.

I'm just happy this whole two-step Intel and AMD are dancing has brought the prices down for the rest of us that don't care which company is on top in the benchmarks on any given calendar date. Fast is nice but fast and cheap is nicer.

Jesus. We need a little more piss on our parade. ;)

Whatever I end up with is good enough for me. I only had so much to spend. I have my second daughter due in less than 3 weeks. :) I'll be home for 3 weeks and the E6400 will give me something to mess around with.

the secret to eternal happiness is roadrage?

The 8x multiplier is plenty. Many of us are just holding over for kentsfield and better motherboards to come out. If I find the situation changes, I'll make the appropriate adjustments. I expect these processors to hold their value relatively well for at least the first few months.

Plus, I really didn't spend lots on the mobo, and no more on the ram then I would have anyways. I agree... don't buy 400 dollar ram with a 200 dollar processor... better off buying 150 dollar ram with a 300 dollar processor.

"even" $270 boards?

$270 boards can be crappy OC'ers too (not that the P5W is, mind you)

The $150 DS3 practically guarantees at least 370, and that's nearly 2.6GHz. That's exceeding FX-62 performance for $200

Yeah, until new boards come around that can consistently do 400+ you're really wasting your time with the E6300/E6400, IMHO.

He was using an 975 board which do crap out at lower FSBs. The popular 965 motherboard (Gigabyte DS3), however, has been getting 400+ regularly.

That seems to be hit and miss. Certainly not regularly :D

And with the DS4 on the (near) horizon, purchasing a DS3 right now seems a bit idiotic.

Practically LOL.. Go look at long thread at xtreme. 400 is rare and many can't hit 370... 24/7 useage is much different than screen shots and 400Mhz puts incredible strain on chipset.

Look what anand got with his E6300..2.5Ghz is lame.

And more like $410 if you include mobo..2.5 ties a 3Ghz X2 you gunna pay $410 for that?

As far as still beating on a FX62....Big deal I can exceed FX62 performance for $210 mobo and cpu with a 3800...I've done it..twice.

$210 vs $410 your choice to match FX62 but I'd rather spend a little extra for a decent multiplier get into the 3.5-4Ghz range and destroy it.

Why you need quad-core? Just to test multi-tasking? Or for future proof?

I'm on a 3000+ venice. What you might consider a waste of time would still be a signifigant upgrade for me!
