Saw it on TBargains first, but thanx. I bought a set. Not too many reviews out there, but I found a few and they were good. Gotta be worth 14 bucks.

usb speakers do take up some cpu

but i don't think it'll be noticeable.

MS had usb speakers.
Basically I don't think you need sound card to run these speakers

Hmm, no mention of whether the USB connection supports WinXP. Do USB speakers need a specific driver to work through the USB port?

This much of a discount on buy.com means that there are some compatibility problems. D-version is obviously USB only.

Thanks, I just ordered a set.

FWIW, you can order them from Yamaha directly for $80 so the list price isn't quite what Buy.com would have you believe.

I had a set of the MS USB speakers and they were nice for their day. One small advantage (at least with the MS) is that the volume controls on the speakers integrated with the volume settings in Windows; i.e. if you turn up the volume on the speaker, it just turns up the volume in the audio properties :)

I just ordered a pair. I seriously doubt that there would only be USB considering that putting 1/8" jacks on the speakers would literally require a few pennies more materials.

And if there's only USB, I'll just add the 1/8" ports myself. No problem.

The FW crowd can't understand why this is still showing in stock, since the deal is so hot, and has been up for so long. I ordered one a couple of days ago, and I'm thinking about buying a second one for a gift.

A 5" woofer won't rock the house, but I will be happy if the set has clean high quality sound, and Yamaha is a good name brand. You can pay more, and get much less, from all of the junk speaker brands out there.

Just checked ! Can't choose 'Free Shipping' on that one... the lowest one possible is $9.15 shipping. I would pass it.

Yup, $14 shipped seems like a nice deal. It usually costs about that much just to ship a set of speakers.

That and there are no coupon OR rebates to worry about. :)
