I wasn't about to stand in line in the freezing cold for a 1 in 100 shot at getting the 2TB WD external deal at Target, so this is great.

I went to my Target last year when they had the 1 TB on sale and they had pretty good stock. I showed up around 8 and was able to walk out with 2.

LOL, haven't seen a 5.25" HDD since an 8.4GB Quantum "Bigfoot" drive that I came across in a campus computer dump. I think you mean 3.5"?

Need a new Time Machine backup drive, so I'm going to keep my eye on this if my trip to Target Friday comes up empty handed.

Hmm, I might try to score one of these and put my 500gb in this case and the 2TB in my external case with the esata port :)

Ended up getting bored and going to Target around 5 and scoring the last one. Might buy a few more from Staples though. :)

Per Facebook page, it starts at 6:00am EST (3:00am PST).

And as for the 7,200 rpm, it depends if you get a Green or Black drive. The ones made in Malaysia are WD 2TB Black drives while the Thailand drives are Green drives.

I'm too lazy to do the work, but over a USB 2.0 interface, does it really matter if it's a 5400 rpm drive than a 7200 rpm drive? As far as I'm concerned, this will be used for archival and unattended backups. So it matters, not.

Many people are cracking them open to get the 2TB Black drives out for internal usage. If you're going to leave it in the USB enclosure, I would think that the Green drive would actually be better as it's still fast enough and runs much cooler/quieter.

Remember boys and girls, you can buy a $25 off $75 coupon from eBay or ejunkie and add a few bucks worth of items to this to get it and other filler items for around $50 + tax + coupon price.

Damn thing went live at 2:35 EST. I didn't get up until just after 4 am and they were sold out. There are lots of held up orders with "Researching" listed and 0 drives on the
Staples online order confirmation (from posts at SD) so it might have been for the better anyway.

ok, so, this got sold out, any other similar deals out there online or B&M?

Not that I know of right now. Target and Amazon had the $69.00 deal the last two days. What made the Staples deal so appealing was the $25 coupon that would bring this drive (+ filler) down to $50 + tax.

The Target drives ending in NETG (Malaysia) contained WD Black 2TB drives (but only with 1 year warranty instead of the normal 5). It's not known if the Target deal will extend to today or not (maybe a manager will still sell them at the $69.xx price).
