Am I to assume that everyone buying this is just going to remove the drive and use it internally? I can't imagine the pain of trying to read or write 3TB over USB2.0.

Micro Center has a USB 3 3TB WD drive for $2 more. I don't if it has a green drive in it.

It says "for Mac", but I can't imagine what would stop it from working with any OS that supports USB. Just checked, it needs to be formatted.

Looks like Newegg is selling this for $152, but the model numbers are ever so slightly different at the end.

Micro Center - WDBEKS0030HBKNE
Newegg - WDBEKS0030HBK-NESN

If I'm only interested in backing up Windows 7/8 PCs, what's better reliability and software wise between this and this?

Assuming both are same price, which is better reliability and software wise?

There are unresolved issues trying to use Windows 7's built-in backup feature with external USB HDDs larger than 2TB. It is unknown to me whether or not this is fixed in Windows 8. But it's pretty shitty of MS not to fix those bugs for those of us still on Windows 7.

Just like the non-C-drive defrag issues, that take up all of your RAM + pagefile space in Windows 7. MS has never issued a patch for that either.

It would be nice if MS could release an OS where everything "just works", for once.
