I noticed in my email that Newegg has a $20 off promo code for the Western Digital WD20EARS 2TB 64MB Cache hard drive bringing the price down to $99.99 with free shipping. Perfect timing as I was ordering the very drive today!

Very nice find, as I need another 2 TB drive.

Thank you...

Update: I read a lot of the reviews on this drive & talk about a mixed bag. Looks like there might be some risk in buying this drive. Keep in mind this is what WD calls an Advanced Drive. You should know what that means prior to placing your order.

ewiz.com has the Samsung 5400 rpm spinpoint 2 tb at $115 with a "HIGH15" coupon to get 15 dollars off. I jumped on this deal yesterday, but today it appears out of stock. You may want to monitor it for the next few days to see if it gets back in stock and if the coupon still works. Especially if you prefer the samsung drives to the wd ones.

And according to the ewiz website, quote: "[for out of stock stuff] you will be unable to order the product from our Website. At that time it is generally acceptable to cry out in lamentation and/or shake your fist at the screen menacingly."

I thought that was kinda funny.

As long as your using a modern operating system you will be fine.

if you use this for WHS (Storage Pool) make sure you set jumper before putting it into the pool.

Yeah, I like samsung drives better, but samsung's lack of Advanced RMA is pissant annoying. So I rather stay with Seagate or WD who generally have a better warranty service.

You & I are aware of that, but I wanted to put it out there in case someone came across it & didn't understand it. They would after reading this thread.

How is that done? I am actually looking for a new drive for my WHS. I know enough to know that the EARS drives aren't compatible, but not enough to know how to do anything about it.

Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware of that. Is WHS like XP where you need to jumper 7 & 8?

Yeah, WHS is based on Server 2003, so it will need to be set to jumper 7&8. Though if you load the new Vail WHS Beta, you should be ok, since that's based on server 2008R2
