This game is a fun one. I have been testing it out on 2 different machines, all else being the same, one machine has a Q6600 (3.2 GHz) with an 8800GTS G92, the other has an E6750 (3.6 GHz) with an 8800 GT.

The game utilizes all cores on the quad and performance is noticeably smoother even though it's 400 MHz less than the E6750.

There are some freezing/crashing problems for some with OpenAL and this game using X-Fi cards, however, the game is perfectly stable without OpenAL (just sounds a bit worse). Very hopefully, Epic will get this straightened out sometime.

All in all, it is a great game for the money.

BTW, you can pick up the soundtrack here: http://entertainment.circuitci...rtner=cc&catOid=-13219

j/k and WTF? do people really buy soundtracks to games?

Nobody plays this game online. Compared to TF2, it's a ghost town. Epic should have dropped the price to $20 last year to save the game. Unfortunately people have moved on to bigger and better things, and it it very hard to find crowded servers on decent maps.

QFFT!!! This game kicks ass, but NO ONE plays it online. More people play ut04 then the newer game. This game would be awesome with a two well coridinated teams, would be absolutely amazing. But for the few servers where you actually find people playing there arent usually enough people on and no one wants to work as a team.

Really really bummed me out cause this would so good with 16-32 coordinated players.

I have this and while it's a good game...

Plenty of people online playing the original UT. Maybe just gotta wait for old players the buy the new software?

Bet I know why. Cause there's no bots and hacks for the new game and 95% of online players are cheaters.

If you want to play with coordinated teams and voice comm, you might be able to find CTF pickup games (PUG matches) at this IRC channel:

irc.GameRadius.net #ut3ctf

For a while people really were organizing and playing UT3 CTF pug matches.

The problem with UT3 is that even though its game play was pretty solid, almost if not everything else that surrounded the game play was horrible and far, far below UT99 and UT 2004 standards -- the user interface, the server browser, the game's ability to auto-download custom maps and mods, the taunts, the player skins, the lack of taunt/communications keybinds, etc. (and the list of what was wrong with this buggy beta of a game could do on and on).

If the game had been released the way it should have been--nearly as polished as UT 2004 is right now after its patches--then we probably wouldn't be seeing this thread.

What I wonder is--did Epic and Midway (who probably leaned on Epic to get the game out the door months before it was really ready) learn anything from this debacle and do they plan to put out a far, far superior product next time if there is a next time.

Either that or it's the abysmal GUI, the lack of customization, or the tight maps that turn into spam fests with more than 4 players ;^)

if they're still playing the original UT, what makes you think they'll start playing UT3 when they haven't even switched to the 3 other releases prior to UT3?

Downloading the demo right now to see how it runs on my rig... Definitely interested. Even though nobody plays UT3, Unreal Engine 3 is a hell of a development tool. I hope my system can take it...

My concern is my video card. 7900GT 256 mb. I really don't want to upgrade - for several reasons.

The engine scales very well. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I blame the really crap multiplayer interface as part of the reason why online games are hard to find. However, it's not so scarce that you can't jump into a game at just about any time. You just won't have much choice, maybe 2 or 3 games actually populated.

The game otherwise is blast to play, fun vehicles, great control feel and phenomenal graphics.

lol. AWESOME, two or three servers that are populated?!?! that's like SOOO many!!!

Try browsing for COD4 or Battlefield servers and you will find hundreds of well populated servers.

If UT3 had as many servers at COD4 I would probally consider it the better game. As others have mentioned, awesome graphics, awesome vehicles and weapons, great gameplay styles, theres just no one playing it.

I remember playing the demo thinking it was awesome gameplay and ran out and bought it right away, wish i had known it was going to be a ghostown.
