I did a search for PS2 and didn't come up with anything on this deal so sorry if this has been posted before. EB (in certain areas, not sure if this is nationwide) is running a deal where if you turn in your old PS2 you get $100 towards the new one (the tiny one with the built in network device). Got in on the deal myself, does seem to load a bit faster and be a bit more reliable in some aspects than my old PS2. Also they're giving $10 for each game that you bring in for trade in towards the new PS2. So if you have any really old PS2 games that you don't play but normally wouldn't get much for this may be the time to trade them in.

Deal expired 10/30 (will bump back up if EB decides to do it again)

guess it's more portable. depends what ur looking for. the only game i've known that needs the HDD is that final fantasy online game. but if ur low on shelf space or want to take these around to parties and stuff, the new one might be a better choice. however it seems like the costs is $150, so it's basically $50 + old ps2 = new ps2.

I hope this is nationwide (or at least in my area) as I wouldn't mind getting in on this deal. I'd have to buy a network adapter for GT4 anyways, so with this deal, just getting the new ps2 wouldn't be that much more $.

Thanks for the heads up.

I hate to burst your bubble about online play...

I bought a network adapter a while ago for this game, and yes, I feel shafted.

the new ps2 can't support hard drive? wtf... what's the point if it has LESS features..

plus, they still don't automatically support 4 controllers/memcards, but luckily i caught that $8 deal posted here during the summer.

It also seems that its hard to get the 4 player multi-tap in there.

Also that I am aware of, I thought the new PS2 was also FLIP TOP, and doesnt have the mechanical eject tray.

well,, I just look into this trade in and it should work at every EBGAmes, i think it ends on 10/30.

As for the harddrive it don't matter to me much, How many game uses the harddrive?, in all the people that owns a PS2 I'm sure only 5% has harddrive.. and I don't really see harddrive sales taking off anytime soon. If you dont' already own 1 yet mostly likey you're not going to buy one anytime soon.

I'm just getting it for the size and looks. Having a build-in network card, faster load time on some games is a plus.

It sucks that you can't use a HD on it, but again I don't even have a game that does uses the HD anyway. This is tempting.

According to the EB Games website you can trade in your broken PS2 and get 50 bucks for it. Not bad if it really is broken!

I don't watch movies on my PS2 (that's what my DVD changer is for) but the new one is dead silent. Doesn't have a fan in it and the DVD-ROM drive is pretty quiet.

Evilyoda: Price on the new PStwo (I think they're calling it that to denote it from the old PS2) is $149 so it should be $49 plus tax.

There is only one thing i use my HD in my ps2 for. Storing games. I have a 120 gig in there and can store more than 60 games. This is the only reason i wouldnt jump on this deal but if you have no use for the HD then this is a sweet deal.

Well, it has a built-in Ethernet adapter, doesn't it? Maybe they'll support LAN disks?! Shur.....
