Did this yesterday with an OG Droid.
As long as the phone turns on, doesn't have a cracked screen or severely damaged body and no water damage you can trade it in for the credit.
There are some caveats;
Basically if you want a new iPhone and have a working, but otherwise useless old phone you can trade it in and get more than it is worth out of it. If you don't like the iPhone you can always sell it and move whatever phone you were using back on to your contract.
Update: For the few of you wanting a 5c Best Buy has sweetened the deal by adding a $50 gift card (towards a future purchase) with any 5c purchase.
Meaning you now make $50 instead of just getting the phone for free.
Update 2: Looks like the promotion ended last Friday and they replaced with a not as sweet offer on an LG G2.

There are some caveats;
- YMMV on if the phone is accepted for trade. It all kinda depends on the people working at that time. I had no problems with my Droid and some people next to me were trading in an Galaxy S II with no issue. I do not know if Blackberry phones qualify.
- You have to use the gift card towards the purchase of an iPhone 5s or 5c.
- You must be a new customer or have an upgrade on your contract available to use.
