Now reading this thread I guess its the HD-DVD after all.

So now i have the HD-DVD set without a HD-DVD player. Its going to be sometime before i get one. I am not going to buy one for anything more than $50 (no rebates).
Well its going to be a show-off item anyway (all box sets are).
My guest will think I have a HD-DVD player.

Bastards. Just got off the phone with a manager named Nathaniel. He says that if you never received an order confirmation number and your credit card wasn't charged, you're not going to get the HD-DVD's. He says that since they never charged the cards, they don't need to honor that price. I argued with the guy for over half and hour and he wouldn't budge. Asked to speak to someone higher up and he said he was the highest person on the customer escalation chain. Offered me a $25 CC GC instead and refused to honor the price even though I had the e-mail that said they would honor the price error.

My order was placed on 5/21 at 7:30am or so. This is really frustrating.

interestingly enough -- many people here and on sd did not/do not have an hd dvd player but were ready to buy one -- soley because of this deal

i am one of those people -- but i dont think the deal went through for me (my cc was charged but item is backordered)

if toshiba or whomever actually did this deal for real and marketed accordingly-- think of how much they could have gained (market share/profits/whatever)
yes sure they offer 5 hd dvds at this time -- but those titles don't even compare to matrix trilogy (though only the first one was amazing)

A few at AVS and elsewhere have already bought the players for this price.

I can't check personally because this is only US pricing, and I'm in Canada. I don't really care enough to check actually anyway, since I already own an HD DVD player.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make use of this $20 Matrix deal either. I bought the Ultimate Matrix Collection from Amazon for $66.56.

I am mistaken. It was not Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.

It was Cost-co and Sam's Club.

It's the Toshiba HD-D2 - which is just Cost-co/Sam's Club version of the Toshiba HD-A2. I think the HD-D2 also comes with an HDMI cable, but I'm not 100% sure.

I rehosted it because the other link was kinda slow. It's an in-store deal only, at Costco and Sam's Club in the USA. It comes with the 5 HD DVD deal from Toshiba (mail-in), and apparently a free HDMI cable in the box as well.
