farstar, are you burning the +R discs at the full 4x on your NEC 1300A? I have the same burner, firmware 1.0A, and can only burn at 2.4x

btw my +R discs are Philips C08 according to DVD Identifier

I went back to the store that did not have any +R discs earlier in the week today. Guess what? They had one spindle of +R discs on the shelf!

Looks like they are CMC MAG 8x discs! Here is the output from DVDIdentifier:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:CMC MAG-E01-000]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD+R]
Manufacturer ID : [CMC MAG]
Media Type ID : [E01]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Disc Application Code : [General Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x - 4x - 8x]
Blank Disc Capacity : [Not Supported By Method 2]

The CMC E01 and PHILIPS C08 seems to be made by the same place. If you look at the code on the inner ring of the disc, they differ only slightly. I bought two packs, and got one of each:

PHILIPS C08: CPDR47G-PAEW08-021 0109
CMC E01: CPDR47G-CAEW08-019 0102

Compared to the inner ring of my pack of CMC R01 (2.4x), the way the inner track is printed is very different. Maybe these CMCs are not actually made by CMC.
