um i'm running an athlon 750 at home. please, 350 to upgrade to a 2.5 ghz machine! it may not be cheaper but definitely worth it! besides, i can always justify a 40$ mobo to the general accounting office later! :D

I have a saved cart from yesterday with the following specs:

Dell Dimension 4550 Series:
Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.66GHz w/533MHz front side bus/ 512K L2 Cache
Memory: 128MB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz
Keyboard: Dell® Quietkey® Keyboard
Monitors: SAVE $100! 18.1 in 1800FP Digital Flat Panel
Video Cards: New 128mb DDR ATI Radeon? 9700 TX Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI
Hard Drive: 30GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
Floppy Drive and Additional Storage Devices: No Floppy Drive
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Mouse: Dell® 2-button scroll mouse
Network Interface: Integrated Intel® PRO 10/100 Ethernet
Modem: No Modem Requested
CD or DVD Drive: SAVE $100! New 4x DVD+RW/+R Drive w/CD-RW
Sound Card: Integrated Audio
Speakers: No Speaker Option
Software Bundles: WordPerfect® Productivity Pack with Quicken New User Edition
Security Software: Dell SecurityCenter by McAfee, 90-day introductory offer
Digital Music: Dell Jukebox powered by MUSICMATCH
Digital Photography: Dell Picture Studio, Image Expert Standard
Limited Warranty, Services and Support Options: 1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year On-site Service
Internet Access Service: No ISP Requested
Mail-In Rebate Offer: $100 Mail in Rebate (double memory promo not valid!)

To configure this today would result in $1389 before rebates or coupons, but my cart says $1289. After coupons, IR and MIR my final price for this system would come to $910.65. My question is, if I go ahead with the transaction, would they correct the $1289 to the regular price? I know from experience that if I go in and reconfigure, the price would be corrected, so I'm not adding on that 60GB hard drive just yet! :)

The specs for this PC state:

Output Wattage: 250W maximum continuous
Link to specs

Is that enough power to run 1 hard drive, 1 CD-ROM, 1 CD-RW, Ati 9700 tx and possibly an additional hard drive that I would install at a later time?

That sure seems like a lot of "stuff" for a 250W PS, doesn't ATI recommend a 300W PS for the 9700?

Thanks,

Mitch

DO NOT post:
Coupon or promotion numbers.

Links to coupon numbers you could not post, here.

Links to scans of coupons other than those listed, above.

Requests for others to post or send you coupon numbers or offers to send them to anyone else.

Thier psus are underrated and P4S aren't as power hungry as AMD. You should be fine.

My Dim 4550 (bought a few weeks ago) is running 1 gig Hyper X DDR 3000, (2) 7200 rpm drives, DVD-RW, ZIP, Radeon 9700 TX, Audigy 2 plat with dock on the factory 250 watt PSU. (nothing is OC'd)

No problems. I did a 6 and 12 hour burn-in test with Sandra on 2 seperate days. No errors or problems at all. I have also been playing alot of BF-1942 and Freelancer with DX-9. The computer is running like a dream. I have yet to see one single problem.

Most good PSU's can more then their rating and also, operating wattages are not as high as you may think. It's only peaks that may get near you max and most of the time the highest wattage drains are when everything starts up.

BTW this deal is so hot I am buying another for a friend. He is using my old athlon 1600+ which I will take back and use as a server. Another friend may also jump on this deal. The value of the guts of this system alone are double the cost.

It is and if you buy a 3.06 you can have Dell enable the HT for free.

I'ld grab this if I had a 15% off coupon. I'm not going to BUY a coupon off of someone. If it comes to that then i'll just pass.

from my experience, it takes dell about a week to build the system. so you could probably get in and cancel your order from yesterday.

I don't think anyone mentioned buying a coupon...

I'm trying to decide on going ahead and ordering and paying ~430$ w/o the 15% coupon.

I'm not too proud to admit that i'm sick of my home-built box's instability

You can absolutely change this deal. Either go into the account and cancel the old order and replace it to todays, or call a dell sales rep (thats what I did last time). They will replace your order, but the lead time changes from the time or reorder, not the original. Double check that this is better though cuz they seemed to have jacked up the base rates to make this deal. If it weren't for the 15% coupon I am using, this wouldn't be much different then what I ordered before.

I know no one said anything about buying a coupon. I just happen to be looking around online and see that alot of people seem to be selling these, whether it be via ebay or a personal sale elsewhere. Why pay for something free? Geez whats the world coming to.

dakels - I totally agree with your praise for the Dell Dimension 4550. I bought one a few months ago during the crazy crazy Dimension 4550 + FREE 15" LCD sale. Sold the 15" LCD, the 4550 ended up costing me around $500 pretty loaded.

Reformatted the 40GB hard drive and did a clean install of XP Pro, added another 60GB Maxtor hard drive for software mirroring (I'm to lazy to manually back up), I love the fact that it has 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 in front, 4 in back), is rock solid stable, fast, looks nice and best of all it's WHISPER SILENT QUIET. You can't even tell that it's on :)

Also it matches nicely with my Dell 1900FP LCD.

Anyone have the Dell Multimedia Keyboard?

I got the standard no frills quiet key. Its ok but I kinda miss my multimedia controls and especially the volume controls (I am lazy :p ). Do any of you think it's worth $20 though? Also, I selected no floppy cuz I can by one for $5 and also the machine will be on my LAN and my machine has a floppy if they need it. Does anyone see the need for a floppy? Any opinions?

I am looking to buy one myself, but what is the advantage of 2.66MHZ over 2.53Mhz beside the obvious speed of .13MHZ?

what the hell, the customer service lady told me that i can't get the price difference or any upgrades because i caught the deal at the wrong time. so i told her to cancel my order, and she said that my order has been shipped already, i was like how can it be shipped today if i just bought it yesterday and usually dell takes a week to build the system. she told me that i would have to wait until i get my system to send it back to them.

any other suggestions guys?
