Dead Space

I love the game, its scary and has tons of gore. Alot of people complain about the controls but I think the sluggishness of the control helps the scare factor, so u cant turn around within .000001 seconds. I would say try it out.

there is no sluggishness in the controls if you dont use the games vsync. for some reason the the games vsync will cut your framerate to half of your refresh rate. if you have an nvidia card you can just turn off the in game vsync and force it on from the nvidia control panel.

I loved this game - one of the only games I've completed in recent years. It was really fun dismembering aliens, the Zero-G parts were a nice twist, and the little puzzles were cool. And it's creepy as hell in the beginning.

Im a hardcore competitive fps gamer, and for once actually ventured into a single player game. I loved Resident Evil 4, and Dead Space is also a blast to play. I recommend you buy a 360 controller for games like these though...made Dead Space and Pure a ton of fun to play.

If you don't have a controller follow toyota's advice because once you fix it all up you dont get the laggy mouse feeling.

its a good game, very brutal and fairly hard on the hardest mode as well

those who don't like it tend to be elitest in my book...im not saying there arent some significant gripes with the game, the story is ok, although a bit cheesy, but the gameplay is fun and i really could give a crap about the story in this type of game..

I was considering getting it, but can't really tell if it's played in the '3rd person view' or 'first person view'......... *shrugs*

where would you get the impression that it was first person? its third person over the shoulder like Gears of War. I normally like only first person but this game didnt really bother me. if you have a widescreen monitor it will feel much better since there are a few places in the game where it can feel cramped with a 4:3 or 5:4 view.

It's over the shoulder. Which was kind of annoying and disorienting for me at first since I'm an FPS player, but I got used to it. The animations are great, so it's not really a problem (curb stomping is fun!).

Great I think I may give it a shot, but that depends on the DRM it has...

Anyone know whether it has install limits or phone home?

DRM

The PC version of Dead Space uses the same SecuRom Copy Protection scheme as Spore and Mass Effect, which requires online authentication and limits the number of times a user can install the game to five. Dead Space has received mixed reviews by gamers because of its DRM. [14]As of November 9, 2008, out of 58 reviews, it has an average rating of two stars on Amazon.com.[15] The game's inordinately low score when compared with other published reviews is attributed by user reviews to public protest against the copy protection used in the game, which restricts the usability of purchased software.

Very strong title. Great atmosphere. Started playing with a gamepad, had to switch to mouse/kb at the asteroid/turret scene, then stuck with that for the rest of the game. Recommend everyone just use mouse/kb from the start. That asteroid part I played 30 times with the gamepad and couldn't even get close to finishing it. With kb/mouse, 1st try.

Absolutely amazing game. While the 3rd person is a bit of a let down at first, the fact that they managed to completely eliminate the need for any type of HUD is a truly beautiful thing to see. In fact, just to experience the HUD is worth a play through. The limb based combat was also in RE4, but it was nice to see it again and done so damn well. The RPG elements of Dead Space were enjoyable also, however, I would have liked to see more weapon upgrades since it seems like you have to scrape by and save for upgrades when the weapons are so damn fun to use. Yea, I realize it's a replayability thing, but replayability is a gimmick to me.

Yep, the lack of any HUD to get in the way was a really great decision on the developers' part. The knowledge that you can get jumped by mutants while you're fucking around in the inventory is kinda scary - you have to be careful when you let your guard down.

Later on in the game it gets kinda easy though, since your weapons are so powerful and you have so much ammo that you can go through aliens like they're nothing. The ones that release the little spider fuckers were annoying though - the contact beam became my friend against those.

Great game. Highly recommended. If you enjoyed Doom3 you will this one.

As for the mobs that "release the little spider fuckers" you can just shoot their limbs off and they won't go pop 😀
