Been playing this game since last sunday. I'm only a little ways in, but I may come back and give an x/10 rating when I finish.
It's very much a cheap monster-suddenly-jumps-in-your-face scare type of game, but I like that. It makes pretty much every moment of the game that more tense. I also like the story. It's pretty much B movie horror fare, but the world seems very well thought out, and the mix of audio and text logs are never overly boring to read even though they are spread throughout the game. This was also an aspect of the first game that I liked. Sound effects are great, as well as the environment sounds. I still hate the brass band swell that happens when a monster appears though. The weapons feel solid and powerful which is another carryover from the first game. So far it's been a great experience overall.
At first I thought that the game was taxing my system because the frame rate seemed so slow, but fraps showed that I was holding rock steady at 30 fps. It seems that enabling vsync causes the game to lock at 30 fps. I suppose they do it to keep performance steady, but that's rather stupid in an age of triple buffered vsync IMO. I turned it off and my FPS shot to 150-300 FPS. Technically I can say that the game runs very well on my system I guess, but someone who didn't think to disable vsync might not realize that. Also, you can force it to vsync at 60 fps by using d3doverrider or radeonpro (for amd users) and turning off the in-game vsync. It's ridiculous to have to go through this step just to get vsync working properly though. Well, at least they fixed the mouse control issue...
