I have an old SS51G system (Sis 651 chipset S478, P4 2.6G) where the power supply just fizzled out after nearly 4 years. My question is this - assuming that time/labor is not really an issue, should I bother spending the extra money for a replacement shuttle power supply, or about the same amount of money buying an Aspire Qpack and just transplanting the parts from the Shuttle into it. The PC is currently a secondary system used by other family members. The replacement PS would slide right in and get the system working again with relatively minimal fuss, but when it came time to retire this system, that case and PS would pretty much be throwaway items. The Qpack is obviously more useful down the road (esp. since it accomodates a regular size PS and a mATX mb) but is not as compact as the Shuttle case and also, there's the possibility that the NEC1300 DVD burner I have in the Shuttle would not fit into the QPack, as I've heard that the CD/DVD space will only accomodate a shorter drive. Anyone have any thoughts? TIA.
