Been waiting for HDs to get this low again. But the 3TB drive on sale here was listed with a pretty high failure rate (9.8% or something out of 4300 drives) the last time the backblaze blog was updated.

Bought 4 4tb Seagate NAS hard drives for a new home server. These were the only 4tb drives on newegg that met my 75% 4+ egg review requirement.

One was dead right out of the box. I had to pay shipping for Seagate RMA.

No more Seagate for me. F them.

whats the 3-4TB drive of choice then?

I wish Samsung was still making disks. I have 4 of their 2TB spinpoint F4 disks in my current home server that have been perfect. They'll still be working when I take them out next month after ~5 years of spinning.

Deal is dead for me OP.
Price may have gone up, but it's still a deal.

Today's Price: $101.47 & FREE Shipping
So, it's really only $6.53 more than yesterday.

Still a good price. Cheapest I've ever seen a 2TB (this being a 3TB) was $62 plus tax. Most 3TBs at this price are eco drives.

But seagate rep :/

I moved to Seagate after I had two external Western Digital's fail. First they both could not be recognized due to corrosion on the board (I have about 10 drives sitting in the same conditions and only the WDs corroded, before anyone cites improper storage). I removed the caddy and used them as internal drives. I thought all was well until I tried to move data to another drive and some files could not be read or copied from the drive. Warranties aren't what they used to be. If they were, I'd probably still be using WD.

No issues with Seagate thus far. My oldest drive is about 5 years old. Way less expensive than WD, too.

If you want a warranty, though. WD Black's carry a 5 year. They are more expensive, though. Seagate's used to be 5, then they were 1 for a short while, now they are 2 along with WD.

I always had good luck with Samsungs, was actually kind bummed when they sold that division off.

Updated.
But now looking at Backblaze's reports, I'm worried about the 3TB Seagate drive I have installed in my machine.... what drive should I be getting!?!? :)
Meh I have like three of these things. If you don't get a DOA you should be fine.

Not DOA... just transferred over all my data from 3 other HDs to it. Important docs were duplicated across those 3 HDDs, but not reside on the single 3TB while I rebuild my server -- I feel like I have a time bomb on my hands :)

Ironically, as I moved the data over, my 2TB died. Either EXTREMELY lucky or something I did while physically moving it made it give up the ghost.
