2 Maxtor 160GB :D

Package was shipped from Staples - London, OH warehouse via Veterans Messenger services, so no tracking #

Drives warranty till Aprl 19, 2006. :frown:

That's a bummer on the warranty. I was hoping it might be a 3 year warranty instead of what Staples site says. My brother said someone from Staples called today to say the order would be delayed a day or two, but online it said it wasn't available(my order status). So I call them to see which one is correct, and the lady told me they have 100 of them on the way, or on reserve.(something like that) She said she'd re-order them for me at the same price to ensure that I got a set, but just a few minutes ago I received an e-mail about my debit card needing verification and that I need to call them back again to be able to get the order finished off. I'm about to just cancel this. I'm going to need to sell one of them anyways, and I may as well wait for a better price for one after rebates.

this is rediculious man.. obviously they do have an abudant supply of drives.. I called today and the lady confirmed that if i wanted the drive for 99-30 off the coupon that I can have them other wise I wouldn't be able to get the deal for 59.98x2 btu she asked if I wanted to place the order since it didn't go through. This has to be some sort of BS since everyone else are having success but I am not :( this fustrates me to hell because I need drives.

I also got an email that "due to high demand ... the stock has been depleted and the quantity ordered will not be shipped" and the staple's order status webpage has now changed to "Item Not Available". So it seems like it's cancelled. But the strange thing I also got a voice mail message from their automated system saying the order will be delivered one day late. WTF ?! The time of the phone message is about one hour before the email message. btw, I ordered on sunday at 4pm pacific time for delivery to california.

Anyways, I picked up the WD 160GB from BB.

I updated the top post. Like some people, I got the phone call saying my order was delayed one day, but when I got home UPS had left a package from Staples at the manager's office, which I assume is the drives.

I can't get the thing onlline for the two for $90

BUT

instore it is 160GB for $69 OTD. Is this still pretty good? They had a couple left, i might pick up another. The only thing is I really wanted a Seagate because of their quietness and better warranty. Are these 8mb maxtors pretty reliable?

my order is listed as "shipped" on the Staples.com website. cool. i spoke with a customer care rep yesterday, as Staples called me, and thinking the worse (my order getting cancelled), the rep just told me that the shipping would be delayed and apologized. hehe... can't complain about a delay in shipping when i'll be getting 2 160gb drives for <$50 each.

i got an automated call stating that the shipment date had changed by one day and if i wanted to accept the new date. I said yes and checked today, they have been shipped. WOOT! THey will be here on Friday.

I am very lucky to get in on this deal. Rarely do i catch a break, I am usually the one that gets cancelled.

My order got cancel but the CSR assured me that i'll get the same deal... if you get a cancellation email just tell them that you placed the order before it went OOS. The reps there are very helpful with the exception of a few. I would tell them that you still wanted the drives since you ordered before it went OOS. Just play stupid and be nice over the phone a staple CSR will be more than happy to help you out.

They told me that they were having computer problems all week and they were very sorry. I kept restating that I ordered before it was OOS and they kept restating that it was OOS when I ordered but the computer systems were having problems and so on. It was an never ending circle.

A note for those who have realized how freakin loud this drive is: (the seek noise is like thunder) I just used hitachi's drive utility (they have a bootable cd image at their site) and changed the accoustic management settings - turned it down to the lowest volume and now it's one of the quietest drives i've ever owned. Surely you loose a bit of seek speed, but for my application (HTPC) this is awesome! Plus it is beleived that this potentially adds a lot of life to the drive.

(maxtor's amset does not function with nforce/2/3/4 chipsets and any chipset other than standard onboard generic ones, the hitachi one is fairly universal and works with maxtors just fine)

I ordered Sunday evening and didn't receive any notices until this morning that the hard drives were out of stock. They sent an e-mail with the wrong purchase number as well.
