I know this is an older thread, but I'm looking to hand my 1060 3GB to my son and get another one, and the Armour cards are the best deal most times (1070 or 580). From the reviews I've seen that test multiple cards (and hundreds of customer reviews) this simply isn't true. The Gaming X cards actually run a little hotter in almost every test under load (within 2C). Here's just one:

My son's buddy just bought a 1070 Armour card and it runs at max 68C under load so far (tested with Afterburner - after one hour). Battlefield 1 seems to put the most stress on it. That's more than acceptable. Maybe not the best when overclocking(?), but that doesn't concern most people for the minimal gains that are achieved.
I'm still not sure if I want a Radeon card because of the power efficiency, but I need an 8GB card to play DCS on high settings, and the 1070 is $200 CDN more (I game at 1080p). The 6GB 1060 is also $50 more than this one:
