I think this is the Green series. Good deal.

Also, it appears to be 3 platter which is also nice! :)

I haven't bought a hard drive in a while. what's nice about 2 platters? Green?
I'm looking for a large backup drive, so huge, quiet, and performance doesn't have to be the best: this looks just about perfect? or is 5400rpm just too sluggish?
I saw the Hitachi drive for about the same price, my understanding is that it's faster but much hotter?
any good deals on enclosures? either this drive, or my smaller current drive would go into it.

lets platters = more platter density.

so its faster at the same RPM.

the hitachi is 5 platters (200 gig each).

this will still be faster at transfer rate, but not seek. i believe the 4 platter (250 per) 1tb WD drive is about the same as the hitachi.

more platters = more load on the motor = more heat and noise due to friction. which also affects wear.
