i recently bought a whole new system from newegg parts by parts. everything is new. new ram(ddr400), new hard drive, new motherboard, new processor, etc.
i bought a IS7-E Abit Springdale motherboard with 2.4C P4 and 2 ddr400 Geil rams.
after setting everything up i was ready to go, but as soon as i turn on the system, i smelled a little bit of smoke so i immediately turned off the system and give it some time to rest, turned it back on and the smoke smell never came back again.
but it will not go pass the memory test bios screen. it would load up displaying the processor info, how much ram, and on the bottom it says push DEL to enter bios or something. i tried pushing DEL but it would just stay there frozen, i tried differeny keyboards and still no luck.
had some spare rams laying around and took out the ddr400 and put in my old ddrrams and they work. so im not sure what is going on. i had some mix feelings about the new rams so i gave them another try one by one to see if one of them was malfunctioning or somehting. One of them did worked and after restarting and trying it again, it froze again. i also tried these rams on other systems and they worked perfectly, both of them.
Is it possible that the ram is not compatible with my motherboard? maybe geils are are not much compatible with Abit mobos? i know that my motherboard can support ddr400 dual channel. should i RMA both rams and get the same GEIL rams? or should i use other companys ram (mushkins, buffalo, corsairs.)? i am trying to get 2 256 ddr400 to run in dual channel with my motherboard. many thanks.
