I built this PC about 6 months ago and all has been fine. General specs are

Abit IP35-E Mobo
E8400 @ 9 x 400 FSB 3.6 Ghz
Corsair HX620 PS
4 x 2 Gig G-Skill PC 8000 (Running 1:1 ram divider for 800 Mhz)

This morning I started getting blue screens of death... so I investigated and found one bad stick of memory (same stick passed memtest a month ago) After further invesigating I found that not only was the ram stick bad, but the slot it was installed in as well. (yes I tested the ram in different slots) Any stick of ram installed in that slot stopped the PC from booting.

I have never heard of a ram slot going bad... also I read another post about someones ram going bad soon after installing an ATI 4870 video card, which I did a couple of weeks ago.

The only connection I can make between the video card and ram is the power supply, as the 4870 sucks a lot of juice.. however I think my power supply should be more than enough for my system. Other than the hardware I already listed I have 2 hard drives and 7 fans running.

Anybody have any input on this?? Looks like I will be needing a new Mobo soon.

Peace
Rich

It's certainly not common.

Did you try running with a DIMM that slot only?
4 Dimms probably needs an adjustment to the mch voltage.

the most common (IMHO) cause for bad "ram slots" is corrosion or dust build up in the slot itself. Sometimes seating, removing and reseating modules repeatedly will get the "bad slot" to work again. Also check for any foreign debris that could cause a stick to make poor contact to the slot.
