Dead ram or dead mobo?

Ok so I was running 768 MB Crucial DDR SDRAM in my computer. On to the point, my computer started freezing up suddenly and I would have to hardboot to get it working again. It eventually got so bad that my video started to become really artifacted. So, I tried switching out the ram and so far so good. Only one dimm on my mobo works. If I put the other ram in it'll just freeze up on me. Does this sound like dead ram or a dead mobo or both dead ram and mobo?
