Dead PSU causes IRQL and PAGING reboots?

Could my psu suddenly going bad cause bsod's and restarts? Nothing hardware wise has changed with my system with the exception of a new hard drive and the fact that it went from being plugged into a PSU upstairs to being plugged into a cheap surge protector downstairs. Thanks for any help.

Possibly. My bet would be memory. Run a memtest86 and see if that picks anything up.

I'm guessing you moved the PC (unless you mean you ran an extension cord from downstairs). You could have jarred something loose, or caused a crack in a flawed motherboard. Pull and reseat all the expansion cards and power connectors (and the RAM), then try some stability tests.

the fact that it went from being plugged into a PSU upstairs to being plugged into a cheap surge protector downstairs.

You must mean "UPS" (Uninterruptable Power Source), not "PSU" (Power Supply Unit). The PSU is inside the case. It's possible there is something wrong with the outlet or circuit the PC is currently plugged into; however, usually that would do things like making the PC shut off rather than just become unstable. But almost anything is possible when you start screwing with the hardware.

I am running memtest86 right now. Only 3 minutes in and its finding mistakes.

Update: 24,000+ errors? Is that even possible?

Uh, yeah. And it's not good.

This just keeps getting better. I turned the pc off and reseated the ram and now it won't turn back on.

Not so good.

Do you get anything when you hit the power button?

If the fans spin for a second and then it powers back off, the motherboard is refusing to boot (usually bad CPU/RAM, or the power is not working right, or it's shorting out.) If you hook up a speaker, you may get a beep code saying what the problem is.

If it's completely dead -- disconnect everything but the CPU, video card, and one DIMM, and check all the PSU connections. You might also try another outlet/circuit.

All right. I replaced the memory, motherboard and processor. Now everything starts up fine but the computer just flat out turns itself off before I can reach bios setup. I really really don't want to fry my brand new parts. What is happening?

EDIT: I realize that I forgot to plug in the cpu fan. With the cpu fan plugged in it still shuts off and the fan gets really loud.
