Dead pixels and laptop screens

Is there any technique to trying to trying to remove a dead pixel from a laptop lcd? Also What should I clean it with? Is rubbing alcohol and a sock ok?

Unless things have changed, you can't remove a dead pixel from an lcd screen. If you have more than a few though, your manufacturer will cover it under warranty as long as you're still under warranty. It can't be just 1 or 2 though.

That's like trying to remove a crack in your winshield with your windshield wipers 😀

Damn, I thought I read something about sometimes you can get lucky if you press on the screen, you can get the dead pixels to go away. Anyways how about cleaning it?

The best way to clean and LCD would be to take a 100% cotton cloth, such as a clean tshirt, and dab it in a little bit of warm water and gently wipe the LCD. I wouldn't use any of that LCD cleaner stuff because of the chemicals. LCD screens are very fragile.

it is sometimes possible to revive dead pixels...take a q-tip or cotton swab and rub and press it on and around the dead pixel(s). you have to press pretty hard but DO NOT push hard enough to break the screen. this will work sometimes, not all the time...good luck

disclaimer: I am NOT responsible for anything you break!!!!

You're thinking about pixels that just are lazy (or whatever they call it). You do a screen test, and the test flashes different colors on the screen and the pixel appears dead in some colors. To remedy that, you can massage the screen to revive the pixel.

edit:
I ordered a refurbished IBM T40 off of IBMs ebay site. The laptop is really nice. Thin and light, yet durable and such. Only complaint is that there is a pretty annoying red dead pixel about an inch down from the top of the screen and it is really visible on a black background. Anyways I did a reformat and reinstall of XP Pro and the only driver I cant find is one that windows lists as "SM Bus Controller". Anyone know what that is?

According to this post, its the problem I was describing above. Theres some website, search for screen test or something and it will take you to that color website.
