Geez... You'd thought that after paying a premium you'd get a good machine. The machine is left swiched on during working hours and it sleeps after a while. I thought Macs "should" have higher quality. Blech... Yeah rite.

Neway, that aside, is it ok to leave the LCD on continuously?

Uhh.. Have no idea. The thing is sealed very nicely and I don't know what manufacturer it's from. Anyhow, the distributor will be sending someone over and they have no idea what's the policy on LCD warranty i.e. how many dead pixels, etc.

You got a lemon, that's all, happens to the best. :)
Shouldn't warranty cover that anyway?

It's definitely not dust. Confirmed by my other colleagues. Tried rubbing it gently as well. No difference.

Sunner: Yups, warranty should. But not sure how's many pixels till they'll replace it.

True. Prob is the distributor doesn't know the warranty plan for this; which is just amazing...

you've seriously never heard of a dead pixel? basically ALL manufacturers allow for atleast several as "normal" and not "covered under warrantee". hope apple is nicer.

I HAVE heard of dead pixel. The distributor on the other hand was confused when I told them that I have one.

Always buy LCD products from a vendor with a good return/swap policy

Had to send my 1800FP back to dell 2 times to get a good one

Tom's polled the different mfgr's. Here's the table that includes Apple. Basically they refused to even go public with their policy. That's probably why the vendor had no clue.

Here's the page on Apple's site that discusses the issue.
