That's a hot price for a standalone G3258 (outside of a Newegg CPU + mobo combo).

Edit: At that price, it's worth getting instead of an G1820 / G1840, even if you don't plan to OC it.

I tried to get one of these this morning. It took my Fry's e-mailed promo code just fine and it came up at the $39.00 price in the shopping cart. The problem was that when I went through the ordering process and got up to the point where I hit the "submit order" button, it just cycled back to the shopping cart as if I had still just selected the G3258 for purchase. Apparently, from reading the slickdeals thread where I first saw this deal posted, this happened to a lot of pissed off people. Some seemed to believe that when this "cycling back to the cart" thing happens it means they are out of stock on the item and another person said they called Fry's and were told there was a typo in the ad and this was actually an "in-store only" deal.

Well that sucks. :( They have it in stock at the two Sacramento area stores near me, but that's beside the point with this thread posting (I already own one).

My email from Fry's @5:15AM clearly shows that it is in-store only. Not sure why people were confused about it.

This cpu is nice and all but any idea when they are going to update their low price offering? Seems like this thing has been around forever.

Yes, Fry's promo deals are in store only deals. However, generally speaking you can still order special promo items online for in store pickup. I did that with i3-4170, ordered online and picked up in store for the low promo price.

Ok, maybe it hasn't been that long but I'd still like to see an update. The tick tock cycle is every one year.

Technically it has been updated:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G3KG0145

But unlike the G3258 you don't get overclocking unless you mess with Sky OC.

Just FYI for anyone that missed the deal, these have been going on sale every two weeks. This is the new rock bottom price, I bought it at the end of the year for a few bucks more. If you want one stay on the mailing list and it will go on sale again. My local Frys still had a ton of them so they may get cheaper.

So, if these do come up again, what's a good Mobo to match up w/ it?

Thanks.

Much appreciated

Now if only the CPU & the Mobo go on sale at the same time!

:)
