You send in the form. :)

Its linked in the OP. If you haven't sent in this particular form before (its been running since I think June), then you'll get the amount of money thats listed on the list.

Note: Make sure to use the numbers from the BOX, not the drive itself. Being as the box matches up on the models on the list, whereas the drive is 7200.10 and doesn't match the list.

What is the easy way to tell the difference between the .10 and .9 drives? Specifically, what to look for on the label of the actual drive.

On the drive it says 7200.10, but just looking on the box, the blue stripe is dark blue.

I hope mine is the .10 drive because I want to replace my main bootdrive, which is a Maxtor SATA from last year. I want to swap in a faster drive. I'm not sure if this perpendicular technology is all that it is cracked up to be, but if it increases density per platter as much as they say, it could dramatically improve the speed of the drive. I'm of the opinion that increased density per platter has always been the big driving force on performance increases of hard drives, way more that rpm or any other improvement.

Yes, the increased platter density should make it perform better... almost as well as a WD. Actually most of the drives are close enough performance to each other that I don't think most people would be able to tell by just using the system.

the .10 drives are suppose to be noticeably hotter than older models. :(

I don't really need another HD but that is definitely tempting. Watch me place an order on this and in a couple weeks the 1/2 TB HD will come out for the same price.

Just got my drive. It is 7200.10, which supposedly has perpendicular recording. I ghosted my current Maxtor SATA drive and made this the new boot drive. I didn't notice any discernable improvement in speed, but this is only one reason for me switching. The other was I like to rotate different drives into my tortuous boot drive location occassionally. It is possible my performance is taking a hit because my virus software seems to be scanning a lot of files.

This drive does run pretty hot. According to Motherboard monitor, it runs about as hot as my other drives. However, when I was doing the cloning, this Seagate was sitting outside my case on its end. The top of the drive got pretty darn hot. I recommend some kind of active cooling.

Fortunately, I always have fans blowing over my drives, so it should run cool once inside the case.

One more plus is I was able to get my system down to two drives, instead of three, without loosing any of my disk space. This did take a few hours of making partitions and cloning partitions.

One final thing. It runs very quiet.

If the rebate comes, this is hot. A big plus, especially for many people, was the kit coming with both SATA data and power adapter cables.

After my system settled down, I think this drive is faster than my older Maxtor SATA.

Well the price on this is up to $210 now, so you won't be tempted against just yet :)

OP should probably edit to say DEAD

The chassis acts as a heatsink to hard drives so when the drive is bolted in, it will run cooler than when not touching any metal. Also, cloning drives will make them hot since they are doing continuous activity for lengths of time.

Well that does make my decisions easier. Hard drive deals has become so common now that if you miss one it's no longer a big deal. There's always another deal coming around the corner.

I do have to pay tax :(

Someone convince me either way on this... I'm going to want to build a new system soon (in the next month or so) and I would want 2 of these for a RAID0; I would only buy one now... the chances of seeing another at a nice(er) price in the next 2 months is: ??

Should I just wait for BF?

awesome deal. I just purchased it for 109. Yes the price is down to 109 again.

I don't care if its 7200.9. Its going to be used for storage anyway. I already have the 7200.10 from newegg for $94.

I am going to return the WD sata300 250gb I got from compusa. I am glad I didn't fill out the rebate form cause I can still return it.

This is a good time to buy hard drives. I think companies are trying to get rid of their soon to be lower capacity drives. So that they can start selling more higher capacity drives like the 750gb drives by seagate.

Just ordered 7 to split between a storage server and a pair for my primary box. My sole remaining WD 80Gig did not have my confidence after the other two kicked off.

Got in at 109 with free ground shipping and no tax. Nice.

chances are good... wait if you don't need it, not if you do.
