Dead On Arrival? Or did I screw this up?

Got a boxed (not oem) 700mhz Celery II, and an Asus slotket. Flashed my bios on the abit bhs mobo (thanks for all the help I got here, people), and the computer rebooted fine with the old celery installed. I set the jumpers on the slotket to 2 volts, reset the bios to DEFAULT settings, removed the celery, installed the celery II...

And nothing. No boot, no video, no beeps.

I put the Celery I back in, and it runs fine.

Where do I start looking for probs?

The celery I was a 300 oc'd to 450.

Abit BH6, previous bios 1.0A, flashed to latest version.
256mb Micon Ram
Radeon LE.
Enlight case, 250 watt ps (2 yrs old).

Thanks again...

Oh. I did put the heat sink on the celery, and it does not get hot when I turn on the PC. Also, I put the slotket into the slot one as is, without removing the tabs from the Celery I. The celery II actually feels a little loose in the slot.

2 volts is an incredibly high voltage for the Celeron 2. I believe the default is 1.7 (you will find it on the box), you will want to change that back. From the 2volt standpoint, you may have fried the cpu.

There are a couple things you need to check on the slocket. Make sure the slocket is fcpga compatible, and make sure you have it set to fcpga and not ppga. If that was not set correctly, again there is a chance you killed the cpu.

Also, make sure the bus speed is set correctly on the slocket. You will find the bus speed on the box (I believe it is 100). You should not have fried your cpu using the wrong bus speed.

I personally would set the jumper to fcpga and change all other settings to automatic. Insert the chip/slocket, hook up the cpu fan, flash the cmost and reboot. Good Luck to ya

I agree with the last paragraph from here. The FSB s/b 66 MHz for the Celeron though. Intel did not jump to 100 MHz FSB until the Celeron 800 MHz. (Although 100 MHz might be possible as an OC I would start with the default to make sure it works first.)

Pez: 99% sure.
The voltage setting is probably where I goofed. The asus slotket has a voltage setting called "default" and it allows a number of other settings. When I get home, I will see if I can set it to 1.7...
The chip was not on for that long--10 seconds maybe, before I shut it off. Yeah, 10 seconds is an eternity in computer time...oh well, if I fried the chip will just buy another...they are not that expensive any more...
