Office Depot has the Olympus C-740 for $199.99 after $100 MIR. YMMV. Camera has 10x Optical with a 3.2 MP. Seems nice enough for a point and shoot. I'm going to check it out this week at my local OD to see if I like it or not. Any other feed back on this would help anyone interested in this camera. 😀
The following is from ToeJam13 who commented on a similar deal on 3/25/05:
The good:
USB2 interface
Composite TV out (NTSC or PAL, user-selectable)
Uncompressed JPEG images
Recognized as a mass storage device by Windows (don't need special drivers to D/L images)
Quicktime video capture
Zoom and pan within images while in playback mode
Thumbnail preview in playback mode
Four primary resolutions: SHQ (2048*1536), HQ (2048*1536/compressed), SQ1 (1280*960), SQ2 (640*480)
4x AA batteries (rechargable Lithium batteries included)
Tripod mounting compatible
Format command for new/corrupt XD cards
Adjustable aperture (F2.8 - F3.7 normal, upto F8 max zoom) and shutter speeds (1/1000s to 16s)
The bad:
Camera very susceptable to blur in lower light environments unless mounted to tripod (no picture stabilization)
The unit will not recharge via the USB adapter (must use external 6.5VDC power pack)
No video capture support via USB (no drivers at this time)
Unit is rather bulky
No audio input
No external flash
The mixed:
xD Memory Card (uses less power, but less common)
Here is a link to a fairly good review of the camera.
I hope this is not a repost as I did not find it anywhere else listed. If so disregard and I'll ask the moderators to delete.
