(Dead: deal over)

Ok, so Office Depot has the Maxtor 160GB for $169.84 (It's online and in the store too). I'm thinking that if you order online, you can use the $20 off $100 coupon, get it for $149.84, then submit the $70 rebate.

$169.84 - $20 coupon - $70 rebate = $79.84...

But, Staples has a $30 off $150 coupon, so with some creative YMMVing, you could possibly get either Office Depot to take your Staples coupon or have Staples let you use a coupon along with a price match to Office Depot.

I'm not sure if the $70 rebate is manufacturer's or store yet, but the one on the .com only shows $50 (original UPC needed), while the in-store flyer says $70. Staples does carry the drive though, so PMing there is worth a try. Both items' model name is the L01P160.

The online rebate available at OfficeDepot.com is only $50. Maybe you get $70 for in-store purchase?

A friend called them, and for some reason, it looks like when you buy at B&M, there's a $20 IR that's not available online (yet, hopefully).

I'm probably going to try printing the $20 off $100 page from their .com and bring it in to see if they'll do a price override for me.

One more note: Outpost.com says that for drives above 137gb, you need one of the following to recognize all the capacity:

ATA Controller
Win2k SP3
WinXP SP1

When I pulled this item up on their weekly on-line ad it shows the $20 IR, so it would be $80 plus taxes AR's at Office Depot. Not sure if it would be worth the effort to PM to save $10. Does anyone know if this model comes with the ATA-133 controller card?

Has anyone been to the B&M today? Can I go up there and pick up a $70MIR card and use that instead of the online $50?

Ok, I just got mine. Finally, a new drive!

What I did was I printed the $20 off $100 page at officedepot.com (I activated the coupon for the online cart and saved and printed).

When I arrived, I showed them my print of the coupon in the cart and said, "Hi, internet coupon. 20 off 100." And they went through on the coupon for me.

So, it was $169.84 - $20 IR - $20 Coupon = $129.84.

And I have the $50 rebate on me. Yes, the other $20 is IR, and I think it's store only.

50 cents a gig isn't bad :) (Though not as good as that $30 for 120gb a while back).

Inside the box is the drive (of course), MaxBlast 3 CD, install guide, ad for other retail products sheet, one year limited warranty, ATA 133 cable, 8 screws. Sorry, no ATA card.

I wasn't as lucky as Ionizer...the store I went to said that was only an online coupon for the addition $20 off and wouldn't give it to me, but $100 isn't that bad really.

Just got mine. Bought online and did in-store pickup. When you select in-store pickup, it lowers the price to $149.84.

$149.84 - ($20 off 100) - $50MIR = $79.84 plus tax.

If OD puts the $70MIR online, this drive would only be $59.84

Anyone who bought at B&M get a $70MIR card? Can it be scanned?

Man I could use one of these to go along with the one I got last month for an upgrade to my RAID.

Must resist. :)

in case anyone cares, Maxtor has DENIED my last 2 rebates (120 GB from best buy in early May) due to 'postmark date after deadline'. It really kinda pisses me off becasue I am very studious about mailing rebates and they never, never, never go out more than 24 hours after I purchase an item. However, since there is no way to prove when the post mark was, other than perhaps mailing registered mail or fedex (who dont do po boxes) or something (which I have been told that rebate companies will reject delivery for), I think I am S.O.L. and stuck paying $140 for my supposedly $50 drives. Dirty bastards.

New to the Hot Deals thing, what does YMMV and B&M stand for??

Does anyone know why it says 70 MIR on the printed ad, and 50 online? Anyone?

I just went in and bought it at my local store. While For some reason it rang up to only 149.84, and they printed out the rebate form for $50. Final price ended up being 162.20-$50MIR to a total of $112.20. Not as cheap as I would have liked, but for no efford, it's not that bad.

Actually, there is no $70 MIR. On the flyer, it shows $70 MIR, but in reality, of that $70, $20 is IR and $50 is MIR. I think $70-$80 is about the lowest you can get this drive for on this promo. The $20 IR that brings the drive from 170 to 150 is available locally only.

PinchyCM, YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary, ie not all store managers will be willing to do all price matches, coupons, etc. For example, if I showed them the $30 off $150 Staples coupon, my Office Depot may have said no, so I showed them my internet Depot coupon for $20 off $100 instead.

B&M = Brick and Morter, ie physical store as opposed to ordering via phone or online.

Picked one of these up today and used a $20 off $100 coupon placing the order online and choosing to pick up instore. Total for me was $139.58 after taxes and no rebate form actually printed out. The store clerk could only find the $50 rebate listed so apparently there is no $70 Maxtor rebate but the price does reflect the $20 IR. I have never had a problem getting Maxtor rebates although they tend to be a little slow getting them to you.
Always make copies of everything. In the case of them claiming the postmark was after the cut-off date send them copies of your rebate forms with the dates and explain that you mailed them the same day. Of course if your rebate had to go through New Rochelle that's an issue with someone other than Maxtor. $90 for a 160 GB 8MB cache hard drive isn't bad, but if you were expecting an ATA-133 controller card in the box you'll be disappointed. Mine came without one. I'm hoping that my motherboard will recognize the full capacity of the drive without one. Or maybe I'll get a 200GB drive later on that has one.

Yea, there is no $70 MIR, just an extra $20 IR on top of the $50 MIR if you order in store.

My comp recognizes the whole drive because it runs XPSP1. Another solution is to run Win2kSP3 or to get special chipset drivers, but other than that, you'd need an ATA card.

My Maxtor 120 was actually a little noisy at first but quietened after some use. This makes my fourth Maxtor drive and I have had no problems with any of them. It's hard to believe how cheap they are now. I am wondering if the manufacturers are expecting people to rush out and buy the SATA drives when they become more readily available. Instead of ATA-133 drives operating at ATA-66 if they are lucky they can have higher priced ATA-150 drives operating at that speed.

ended up ordering it. 169 - 20 = 149 - 50 = 99. not terrible. there is no 70 dollar rebate, it's 50 dollars. damn misprints. i'm gonna call them to harass them about it tomorrow. but, you can get it for 149, if you buy it in the store (including the addtional 20 dollar IR), but you can't use the online coupon too. anyways, not a bad price. hope i can get 20 bucks back :)

Their ad may have said after $70 in rebates, but it's $50 MIR from Maxtor and $20 IR. And you can use a coupon even if you buy instore. The trick is to find a store that has it in stock and apply the coupon online then select instore pickup. My local store didn't have it and only one of two stores in the city nearest me had them. So I had to clear the cookies on my hard drive and keep trying until I was successful. I had to go to this town anyway to replinish my dwindling supply of Taiyo Yuden CD-R discs. Picked up 300 while I was there so I didn't feel like I was wasting gas to go pick up a hard drive. I have actually been able to use an online coupon at my local Office Depot B&M by simply showing them the valid code at a website using their computer. I mean they are the ones who give out these codes so why shouldn't they honor them. You would think that they would make them printable to use in stores, but I suppose the whole idea behind the coupons is to get people to shop online. Filling orders at a central distribution warehouse costs them substantially less than putting them on shelves in each store.

you can get the $20 IR when you order online, you gotta do the instore pickup though. I got it for for 169 - 20IR - 20 coupon - 50MIR + 10 tax = $90

i'm gonna call OD tomorrow to harass them about it. i tried to do a instore pickup, but there weren't any within about 100 miles of me that had them in stock. first the jip on the misprint, and now the IR that's in store. i want at least 20 bucks back. stinkin OD.
