For all those Canadians out there who are tired of $350-450 prices on R9 290 and $400 CDN+ prices on 970:

ASUS Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 1000MHZ 4GB 5.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCE-E Video Card

$299.99 CDN - $30 MIR = $269.99 CDN with Free Shipping

Rebate is valid from Dec 01, 2014 to Dec 31, 2014. Limit 1 rebate(s) per customer.

At current USD to CDN exchange rates (1 USD = 1.165 CDN) = this is about $232 US which is not bad considering higher CDN prices of hardware. To give you an idea of how good this price is, NCIXUS.com's cheapest R9 290 is $250. :)

This card should run at about 78-79C at gaming load.

One caveat is waiting for GTX960 that might push R9 290 prices lower in January of 2015.

A typical high quality 970 such as MSI Gaming 970 goes for $420 CDN, or 56% more expensive for 5-7% more performance (and less at 4K). If you want a perfect stop-gap card for the next 1.5 years before 16nm FinFET GPUs, it doesn't get much better than this in Canada when buying new.
