dead monitor

for the past few days, my monitor( a generic brand ) flickers and at the same time there's this crispy sound coming from the back of the monitor.

last night, while i was surfing, the monitor was his usual mood, flickering so i adjusted the refresh rate from 60 to 85. after a couple of hours, the monitor was flickering almost after a minute or so. again moments past by and for the last time it flickered together w/ the crispy sound and there it was, a black screen and the LED turned orange, instead of green.

By the way, i'm using the built in Intel Graphics (Intel 845g) since i'm still saving for a geforce 3 ti. I haven't tested the monitor on other pc's yet but i'll try it tonite. i'm just wondering if one of you guys ever experienced this.

my specs are:
P4 1.6a@2.0g
256MB Kingmax DDR333
Epox 4g4a
20g Maxtor
CD Rom
Motorola Internal modem
4 Case Fans
1 northbridge fan (i installed it since epox did not put one)
300Watts Generic Power Supply
17" Magnus Monitor

A generic monitor, built-in graphics, and going up to 85Hz refresh rate usually doesn't come out with good results.
