DEAD MOBO

Today i put some case fans in my case. I took everything out. and installed them fine.

I put my system back togther powered everything up.
It posted i saw a bios screen. THen i lost video. So i pulled the plug.

Unplugged everything other than CPU, 1 stick of ram and video card.
Then tried to turn it on nothing.

I'm pretty sure my mother board is dead. I tested the CPU and ram in a nother system and they work fine.

My mother board is under warrenty.
The only thing is replaced the chipset fan ages ago.
because it well died like they always do. ( asus should really spend more than $4 on a chipset fan.)

What are the chances of getting the mother board replaced????

ot will i be told since it dosnt have the stock chipset fan its my fault?

Have you tested the video card in another machine? I have the same board,
so I know that you can't test w/ onboard video (none).

As for the chipset fan, is it still working/spinning?
I read the reviews before I bought it and heard about the fan issues, so I also
bought a zalman heat sink to replace it before I even turned it on. Glad I didn't
have to worry about it dying on me. If you get a new board, I would suggest
doing the same.

I bought another A8N-sli
put my system back together
and every thing works fine.

So its not the video card or PSU

i have Antec True power 550 PSU and have never had power issues.

I'm pretty sure on of the capaitors died on the board because it makes a nice hi pitch noise when its turned on

Does anyone if i can RMA the board with out the chipset heat sink???

Or will i be told that a new chipset heat sink was a mod and thats why it died?
even after extensive testing my chipet ran cooler..

Contact Asus. You should be able to get an answer through email before you ship the board. You?ll need to contact them beforehand anyway for an RMA number.

It sounds as the fan problem is a known issue. I don't think they will deny your RMA because the board doesn't have "their" fan on it, especially if the replacement is working.

Only Asus can tell you what Asus will or won't do. I think you'll be fine.
