some may enjoy this tho

My experience with Seagate would make me pay $10 xtra not to have one. I had to RMA a Seagate drive, called and a replacement was in stock at San Antonio, TX location, I live 150 miles away. Sent drive back, paid freight. Charged me $35 for the exchange by ground shipping. Took 3 weeks and 5 days to ship!!!!! Awful service and $35 is unreasonable.

$35 Holy crap! As I posted before, the 16 month old Seagate SATA went out on my kids HP. I tried to RMA it through the Seagate site, but it was rejected because I bought the drive from a computer builder :disgust: HP is not talking to me because my one year warranty on the PC is up :disgust: Trying to get an English speaking supervisor at HP :disgust:

Which is exactly why I could care less about the warranty period on sub-$100 drives. One, three, five year....what difference does it make? By the time the warranty is out even on a one year drive, it will probably be a sub-$50 drive. Why would I bother with the aggravation and shipping expense to have it replaced by a refurbished drive. I can just replace it with a newer/faster/bigger drive that is now priced in the sub-$100 range. I'd maybe feel different if we were talking about one of those new ~$400 750GB Seagates, because a year from now it will probably still be a $200+ drive.

I have 4 of these 300gb SATA Maxtors in Raid 0+1 and they are GREAT

They are FAST and COOL and QUIET.

Should I mention my two 80GB Ultra ATA 133 Maxtors running in Raid 0 for over 6 YEARS! with not so much as a hiccup.

Has a Seagate SATA drive and it was very warm to the touch and VERY LOUD.

I really do not see what the big promotion is with Seagate drives is. Especially the new ones run hotter than the Maxtors and are not really better performers if at all (not better enough to justify the heat).

These Maxtor drives are a Good deal.

And just to add I do not trust any harddrives. If you have all your pictures and your music or whatever is very important to you then back it up on DVD or setup raid 1 no matter what brand harddrive you have. Better safe than sorry. Losing pictures you have as memories to your good times in life cannot be replaced by a good warranty.

I had a maxtor fail on me once. It was only a couple weeks old and I had it backed up so it was no big deal. They RMA'd it immediately and cross shipped me a new one (had to give em a credit card) and I had the replacement in 3 days. I was impressed. I still buy Maxtor.

You might want to pick up HDs locally to minimize handling. That drive looks like a nice drive.

It's ALIVE! The deal is back. Interesting note I got the 200gb version two weeks ago from outpost and while it stated SATA1 150MB/sec data transfer rate on the box, the drive itself was stickered SATA2 3.0gb. HOT!

I bought this at frys a few days ago for the same price...Im pretty sure it has a 3 year warranty becuse i just put in the numbers and it doesnt expire until 2009...I cant complain about that. What I can complain about is that I have had recently 3 maxtors all 300 GB Dump on me... Controller failure. Could have been linked to the powert supply i was using so i still might be getting rididual from that however this past weekend one of the refurbs the sent me tanked....NOT cool.

I used to buy only wd but they got pricey. Now ill buy any major manufacuturer IBM, Maxor, segate, WD. But I cant rule out maxtor yet becuase of the problems i had with the power supply.

sigh.

Well the drive arrived yesterday which was amazing (to me), being that fast. Arrived in about 1 1/2 days after ordering with the free ground shipping. :)

As for the drive itself, it appears to be SATAII. Unfortunately, I just wish my motherboard could take advantage of the increased speed. :(

Same here with my older mobo.

Deal is DEAD now.

The next best thing is the 200GB Maxtor for $59.99 with free shipping. Hey that's $10 more than the last time the 200GB's were on sale!
